    Lightbulb The Quran on Mountains

    Report bad ads?

A book entitled Earth is a basic reference textbook in many universities around the world. One of its two authors is Professor Emeritus Frank Press. He was the Science Advisor to former US President Jimmy Carter, and for 12 years was the President of the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC. His book says that mountains have underlying roots.[1]These roots are deeply embedded in the ground, thus, mountains have a shape like a peg (see figures 1, 2, and 3).

This is how the Quran has described mountains. God has said in the Quran:

“Have We not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?” (Quran 78:6-7)

Modern earth sciences have proven that mountains have deep roots under the surface of the ground (see figure 3) and that these roots can reach several times their elevations above the surface of the ground.[2] So the most suitable word to describe mountains on the basis of this information is the word ‘peg,’ since most of a properly set peg is hidden under the surface of the ground. The history of science tells us that the theory of mountains having deep roots was introduced only in the latter half of the nineteenth century.[3]

Mountains also play an important role in stabilizing the crust of the earth.[4] They hinder the shaking of the earth. God has said in the Quran:

“And He has set firm mountains in the earth so that it would not shake with you...” (Quran 16:15)
ikewise, the modern theory of plate tectonics holds that mountains work as stabilizers for the earth. This knowledge about the role of mountains as stabilizers for the earth has just begun to be understood in the framework of plate tectonics since the late 1960’s.[5]

Could anyone during the time of the Prophet Muhammad have known of the true shape of mountains? Could anyone imagine that the solid massive mountain which he sees before him actually extends deep into the earth and has a root, as scientists assert? A large number of books of geology, when discussing mountains, only describe that part which is above the surface of the earth. This is because these books were not written by specialists in geology. However, modern geology has confirmed the truth of the Quranic verses.

    Hmm. Focus.

Well just putting up some pictures of cross sections of mountains really.
As you are aware no doubt from frantic googeling mountains are a result of two factors. One: Plates colliding which can on occassions squash the rock both up and to a lesser extent down. This dosnt "peg" the mountain or make the land unshakable. Actually the land is going to shake more often in areas close to mountains.
Two: The crust breaking and molton rock forming new terrain. A entirely new island appeared in the 1970's from this very phenomenon.

Simply put, if you choose to see the fact that some mountains, based on a myriad of factors, have bulges under them as confirming scripture then knock yerself out!
If you think mountains nail the land into place, then do so likewise.

By the way, Bai's come after Hai's

Actually if anyone frantically googles around here it is you, glad to see you didn't run to wik this time around.. and I hope you'd spend sometime tying together your info, so you are no pulling another plunder to end with a foot in your mouth, like your previous 'lunar calendar' , where elementary level mathematics seem to confound you!

simply put, you have no credibility-- none whatsoever, least of which when it comes to basic science, I'd prefer you refrain from engaging in topics well over your head, unless you enjoy being made into a public spectacle?

I cant see any point in us doing a "My cross section of a mountain is bettar dan urz..LOLZ".
We would quickly fill pages with my pics of mountains of no "pegs"and your mountains with "Pegs".
My link to the geological formation of mountains above is valuable to anyone who wants to learn how mountains were created.
If you want to see them as nailed into the earths crust by a infinate power then thats your entitlement.

I wouldn't say better, but certainly a thorn in your side, considering, it comes from books written by actual geologists and not a layman's magazine..

We would quickly fill pages with my pics of mountains of no "pegs"and your mountains with "Pegs".
I doubt it, unless you want to spend the rest of the day on mock drawings?

I suggest you actually read the article and understand the info therein before sharing your wicked intuitive assumptions!
One doesn't actually have to negate the other..
anymore than the article you pasted from wiki negated the one I posted about the lunar calendar being 11 days less than the solar, it all has to do with how you process information, rather than what the information actually states..

    cheers
