    Quran and Science

The Sublime Precision of the Quran is what enlightens me and elevates my faith and what amazes me even more is its reference to science and how only recent modern technology has proven alot of whats revealed the Holy Quran. Can anyone contribute some information from the Quran that has only been recently confirmed with modern science and technology. For Example:-

From their bellies comes a drink of varying colours, containing healing for mankind…(Surat an-Nahl: 69)

As Allah says in the Qur’an, honey is a "healing for men". This scientific fact was confirmed by scientists who assembled during the World Apiculture Conference held from 20-26 September 1993 in China. During the conference, treatments with honey derivatives were discussed. American scientists in particular said that honey, royal jelly, pollen and propolis (bee resin) cure many diseases.

I know there are many more and would love to know of any that I may have missed or not know about.

The honey contains carbohydrates (fructose, glucose, and 25 different oligosaccharides), proteins and amino acids, minerals, trace elements, vitamins, and polyphenols. It has a lot of useful health effects (1). For example, there are the antibacterial, antiviral, antitumor, antiinflamatory, and antioxidant properties of honey, the effects of which are mainly attributed to the phenolic compounds such as flavonoids (2). Honey may also improve healing times in mild to moderate superficial and partial thickness burns (3).

Although honey is useful for health, it should not be given to children younger than 1 year because of the risk of contamination with C. botulinum spores.

Sugiyama et al. (1) positively detected in 18 (7%) of 241 honey samples, Midura et al. (2) detected in 9 (10%) of 90 honey samples. Nakano et al. (3) examined 270 honey samples and detected in 23 samples (8%). Nevas et al. (4) detected in 8 (7%) of the 114 Finnish and in 12 (15%) of the 76 imported honey samples. Rall et al. (5) detected in 3 (3%) of 100 honey samples. Kuplulu et al. (6) detected in 6 (12%) of 48 honey samples. These studies have shown that 3 to 15% of honeys have the C. botulinum spores.

The number and frequency of C. botulinum spores in honey can be diminished by increasing hygienic level in honey production (7).
