What are the reasons of stoning?

    Report bad ads?

Like the title says, Why do we stone women if they commit adultery? There must be a few reasons good ones right? Why stoning, why not sentence them to death by hanging? I am just curious, the media love to creep these kind of things up, but I don't like to listen to their nonsense....

Well it just came from our past . Their is no hard and fast rules of giving punishment like that but still people relate this kind of sentence to be stoned so that they feel pain and get repentance on that.

Re: What are the reasons of stoning?

Until the invention of the gallows (in the mid 1700s) and the "Hangman's Knot"(Invented during the Elizabethan era) hanging was a very inhumane and cruel form of execution. A person hanged suffered an extremely painful and slow death by suffocation and would often struggle for hours to get free.Stoning was probably the most humane means of execution at one time, but also the most dramatic and visible.

Stoning was the accepted punishment for adultery long before the
Qur'an was revealed. since it is not forbidden in the Qur'an it indicates it was to continue being the accepted punishment.

It's not just women who get stoned, the media all ways conveniately forget to mention that the punishment is the same for a man who is caught comitting adultry as if to say Islam is particularly unfair to women.

Re: What are the reasons of stoning?

Classically, scholars of fiqh have considered rape to be a capital offense. I've got that idea from many, many places, but I don't remember any direct scriptural sources for it atm.

Decapitation would have been far more humane, but why get hung up on that? If punishment is humane, is it punishment?

Well, the Quran prescribes public flogging as the punishment for zina, without making any difference between different types of zina...

Re: What are the reasons of stoning?

Although this punishment is not mentioned in the Qu'ran, it is the subject of a number of strong ahadith - Rasulallah (may the peace and blessings of Allah subhanahu wa ta'alaa be upon him) is reported to have dealt with a number of adulterers of both genders this way and it is therefore considered a part of the Shariah. As a revert, I used to think that it was barbaric, until an Alimah explained it to me in its full context and I began to understand that it is actually a great mercy from Allah subhana wa ta'alaa that helps to preserve a peaceful and safe society. Although it is undoubtedly a harsh punishment, if you stop and think for a moment about the incredible amount of damage that an adulterous relationship can cause - to the immediately affected families and to society in general - then you can understand why Allah subhanahu wa ta'alaa has ordained that this severe punishment be administered. As with other Hudud punishments, it is meted out in public so that everyone can witness the suffering of the guilty party, see that justice has been done and take on board the warning not to disobey Allah subhanahu wa ta'alaa in the same way. In reality of course the standards of proof required before the sentence could be passed are incredibly high and it is an very effective deterrent in any case, so it has only been used correctly a handful of times in 1400+ years. Not a nice thing to happen to anyone, but easily avoided by staying within the bounds of Islam, insha'allah.

Yes, Allah subhana wa ta'alaa has prescribed al-rajm to serve not only as a wordly punishment and a strong warning to others, but also as a protection and mercy for society by removing those who cannot control their lust and would likely commit zina again and again, spreading great damage to their family, lineage and community.

But we must not forget that this dunya hadd is only the start. Those who commit zina are severely punished in their grave as well. In a very well-known hadith, Allah's Messenger (may the peace and blessings of Allah subhanahu wa ta'alaa be upon him) relates a dream in which he saw how sinners are punished in the intermediate life of al-Barzakh (life in the grave).

Samurah bin Jundub reported that one morning Allah's Messenger (pbuh) said: "Last night two men came to me (in a dream) and said, "Come with us." I went with them to a sacred land ... We proceeded until we came upon a hole in the ground that resembled a baking pit, narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. Babbling and voices were issuing from it. We looked in and saw naked men and women. Underneath the pit was a raging fire; whenever it flared up, they screamed and rose with it until they almost fell out of the pit. As it subsided, they returned (to the bottom). I said, "Who are these?" They said, "Come along!" ... I said, "Since the beginning of this night, you have taken me to different places, and I have seen amazing things! What is all this that I saw?" They said, "We will now tell you ... As for the naked men and women who were in the pit, they are men and women who indulge in zina ... And I am Jibreel, and this is Meka'eel..."
