And never will the Jews or the Christians approve of you until you follow their Millah. Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the [only] guidance." If you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of [or from] knowledge, you would have against Allah no protector or helper.

    [Qur'aan 2:120]

The Verse addresses the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) but the message is for the entire Ummah. [Ibn Katheer, Tafsir Al-Qurtubi]

Imaam Al-Shaafi, Abu Hanifah, and Ahmad in one narration have derived evidence from the Verse that all of the Kufr are one Millah since the singular of Millah has been used. The legal application of this is that when a person who is Christian dies, a Jew from his family can inherit from him since both are considered from the same Millah. A Muslim cannot inherit from a Jew, Christian, or any other Kaafir, and neither can anyone of them inherit from the Muslim. [Ibn Katheer, Tafsir Al-Qurtubi]

The Jews and Christians will never be pleased with you unless you abandon your Religion and follow theirs. [Tafsir Al-Tabari]

Even if every sign which the Jews and Christians ask for was brought to them they would not believe. [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi]

Strive to please Allah by conveying the Message of truth which He has sent and not by pleasing them as you will never be able to please them. [Tafsir Ibn Katheer]

When Ahamd bin Hanbal was asked why he declared those who say the Qur'aan is created Kaafirs, he said because of the portion of this Verse which reads “what has come to you from knowledge” because the Qur'aan has come from the knowledge of Allah [so whom so ever calls it created has done kufr] [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi]
