We are currently collecting funds to help pay for the daily iftar at the
Islamic Society of Essex County. This Masjid is usually referred to as the
"Branford Place Masjid" in downtown Newark on Branford Place. As you know, Ramadan is coming up soon, and we all know of the great rewards that a Muslim can attain by providing his brother or sisters with food to break their fast inshaAllah. On top of that, our rewards are multiplied during
the month of Ramadan. Please take this opportunity to donate any amount of money towards the food for daily iftar at this Masjid. Also keep in mind
the economic/financial situation of the city of Newark and many of the
people who will attend the iftar at this Masjid.

Some Updates:
- The Shaykh at the Masjid has informed me that an average of 150 people
usually show up daily for iftar during Ramadan (100 on the weekends). I
have contacted one restaurant and I am in the process of contacting a few
more in the Newark area to get an estimate of how much the daily cost will
be and to find a good place to be able to handle the daily volume of food
and to keep on schedule. Right now, I am estimating a cost of about $500 a day ($3.25/head) to feed 150 brothers and sisters iftar.
- In terms of ordering too little or too much for a specific day, the
Shaykh has informed me that the masjid usually donates the food that is
quickly perishable to a local homeless shelter and will keep any food that
can be stored easily and used for the next day in the Masjid.
- The Shaykh has also informed me the Masjid has connection for dates,
juice/water, plastic utensils and etc.
- We are trying to get the majority of funds collected by the end of this
weekend (Aug 24th) so that we can discuss pricing and scheduling details
with the masjid and a restaurant. But of course, if you would like to
donate afterwards, please do so because we can always schedule more days to feed the masjid for iftar.
- Currently, we have more than $4,000 of pledges - we need more inshaAllah.
JazakAllah Khair for any donations. Please also keep in mind your brothers
and sisters overseas who are suffering daily and need help for iftar. We
don't have a collection for that, but it is very easy to find large
organizations who do or send some money to a relative overseas to take care of it for you.
