    please help me

    Report bad ads?

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

ok, someone came to me, and said, Islam is a religion of terrorism and violence, because it tells you to kill people who don't believe in God, and he brought me this verse, can someone please translate the exact meaning of this verse, and what does it tell us to do. And one more thing please, how should I reply to this person? what kind of answer should I give him?

    9:5

And when the forbidden months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever you find them and take them captive, and beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent and observe Prayer and pay the Zakaat, then leave their way free. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful

Should I seek a source of law other than God, when it is He Who has sent down unto you the Book (Qur'an) fully explained? And those whom We have given them the Book know that it has been sent down from the Lord with truth, so be not of those in doubt.

    1. Freedom from (all) obligations (is declared) from Allâh and his Messenger () to those of the Mushrikûn (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers In the Oneness of Allâh), with whom You made a treaty.
    2. so travel freely (O Mushrikûn - see V.2:105) for four months (as You will) throughout the land, but know that You cannot escape (from the punishment of) Allâh, and Allâh will disgrace the disbelievers.
    3. and a declaration from Allâh and his Messenger to mankind on the greatest Day (the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah - the 12th month of Islâmic calendar) that Allâh is free from (all) obligations to the Mushrikûn (See V.2:105) and so is his Messenger. so if You (Mushrikûn) repent, it is better for you, but if You turn away, Then know that You cannot escape (from the punishment of) Allâh. and give tidings (O Muhammad ) of a painful torment to those who disbelieve.
    4. except those of the Mushrikûn with whom You have a treaty, and who have not subsequently failed You In aught, nor have supported anyone against you. so fulfill their treaty to them to the end of their term. surely Allâh loves Al- Mattaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2).
    5. Then when the sacred months (the Ist, 7th, 11th, and 12th months of the Islâmic calendar) have passed, Then kill the Mushrikûn (See V.2:105) wherever You find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and Every ambush. but if they repent and perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât), and give Zakât, Then leave their Way free. Verily, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
    6. and if anyone of the Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers In the Oneness of Allâh) seeks Your protection Then grant Him protection, so that He may hear the word of Allâh (the Qur'ân), and Then escort Him to where He can be secure, that is because they are men who know not.
    7. How can there be a Covenant with Allâh and with his Messenger for the Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers In the Oneness of Allâh) except those with whom You made a Covenant near Al-Masjid-al-Harâm (at Makkah)? so long, as they are true to you, stand You true to them. Verily, Allâh loves Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2).

The Verse of the Sword: The Final Word?

    Name of Counselor: Ahmad Saad

....This verse is normally quoted outside of its context. In reading this verse we should read the preceding and the subsequent verses. These verses refer to a certain group of idolaters who did not respect their treaty with Muslims.

Rather, they slew them and prevented them from practicing their religious freedom. They also launched a massive war against Muslims everywhere and forced them to leave their houses.

Against these non-believing oppressors Muslims are justified, as much from the Quranic background as from logical background, to fight back in a defensive jihad.

Therefore, the verse speaks about defense, not attack. This is proved by the subsequent verses that command protection of any non-believer who seeks protection, delivering him to the place where he feels secure without causing him any threat.

    Fighting Verses in the Quran

    Name of Counselor: Shahul Hameed

Surat At-Tawbah was revealed to the Prophet in a situation when the pagans were at war with the newly organized Muslim Ummah (nation); and the Muslims were fighting them for survival.

One of the issues dealt with in this verse is how to treat those who break existing treaties and the Muslims, specifically, are asked to fight those who break treaties, until they were thoroughly routed or they repented and agreed to follow the conditions imposed on them, which will ultimately be for the good of all.

Jizyah is a much misunderstood tax the non-Muslims were asked to pay to the government in lieu of the Muslims’ payment of zakah.

By paying the jizyah non-Muslims were guaranteed protection and rights including the right to worship as they chose, as long as they did not conspire against the Islamic authority. This can be equated nowadays to ‘nationality’ or ‘citizenship’.

It is important to note that many times throughout Islamic history Christians and Jews opted to pay the jizyah and live under Muslim authority rather than the other options available to them under the various empires and ruling bodies.

    Re: please help me

salam 1 - please help me

Fight those who believe not in God nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which has been forbidden by God and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of truth, [even if they are] of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. (9:29)

Some people have falsely concluded from verse 9:29, that Muslims are commanded to attack all non-Muslims until they pay money....These Ayat (Quranic verses) stress the necessity of fighting against the People of the Scripture, but under what conditions?

.. Islamic State is not permitted to attack non-Muslims who are not hostile to Islam, who do not oppress Muslims, or try to convert Muslims by force from their religion, or expel them from their lands, or wage war against them, or prepare for attacks against them.

...In light of the historical context of this verse, it becomes very clear that the verse was revealed in connection with agression initiated against Muslims. As Dr. Jamal Badawi very accurately concludes with regard to verse 9:29 and similar verses:

All of these verses, without exception, if studied carefully, address aggression and oppression committed against Muslims at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whether by idolatrous Arabs, some of the Jewish tribes in Madinah, or by some Christians.

Therefore, the command to fight in verse 9:29 relates to those non-muslims who commit agression and not those who are committed to live in peace. The verse is subject to certain conditions that were apparent when it was implemented in the time of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh, as Shaykh Sayyid Sabiq writes:

What we have stated makes it clear that Islam did not allow the initiating of hostilities, except to: 1. repel aggression; 2. protect Islamic propagation; 3. deter Fitnah and oppression and ensure freedom of religion. In such cases, fighting becomes a necessity of the religion and one of its sacred ordainments. It is then called, ‘Jihad’.

    Re: please help me

It is possible that this verse has been misinterpreted to mean that from the time it was revealed to the end times that it must be followed.

How do you know that it wasn't meant for just one specific time in history during Mohammad's life?
