    Re: English new testament

it varies from denomination to denomination.

You are mostly safe with NewRevisedStandardVersion (NRSV) and NewInternationalVersion (NIV). These are very common and easy to come across. But I think that the best actual book you can buy is the Oxford Annotated Bible... it had a red cover when I had one, but I'm not sure if they came out with a new edition.

Why are there so many versions anyway? There's only one arabic version of the Bible.

    Re: English new testament

There are many different versions of the Bible for as many reasons as there are versions.

I think the common reason is to make the Bible easier to read and more appealing to different generations. The Arabic bible is probably directly translated from Greek.

But if you try to read the King James Version, it is in "olde English" and reads like "ye brethren cometh forth upon the fort night" or something like that, while the NSRV is in language more similar to English of today.

    I'm afraid not: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible_t...tions_(Arabic)

Anyway, the best English translation of the bible is, in my opinion, the King James version. Yep, its in 'ye olde' language, but it keeps the poetry intact wheras newer translations in their quest to get it into simplified, understandable contemporary language lose a lot of that. On the other hand, they may be genuinly easier to understand. i have a 'good news' bible.

their book is about Jesus/Isa ibn Marrian, Alayhe Salaam; it is NOT the Message[Injeel] that brought. because of that, they feel they don't need a Aramaic book, with a great deal being in the Greek. but as it is NOT Revelation, just "stuff" about Jesus/Isa ibn Marrian, Alayhe Salaam, they really don't care what language it is in.

anywho and anyhow, i would actual recommend a Parallel bible with multiple translation, such as this one:

    http://www.amazon.com/Contemporary-P.../dp/0195281365

it has the King James, the NIV and the NASB as well some reall modern ones.

something like this would be even better:

    http://www.amazon.com/Eight-Translat...ref=pd_sim_b_2

it has King James 1611, Living, J.B. Phillips, RSV, Good News, NIV, Jerusalem Bible, New English Bible

and then maybe one study bible like the Zondervan NIV Study Bible:

    http://www.amazon.com/Zondervan-Stud...7519569&sr=1-4

[iirc, it also come in NASB and MAYBE NKJ (New King James)]

something like this can be really helpful:

    http://www.amazon.com/New-Strongs-Ex...ref=pd_sim_b_3

The New Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible: Classic Edition, you can look up any word in the bible and it will show you all of the places that it appears in the Bible [i have one for the Shakir Translation of the Qur'an!]

they also have Greek English Translations.

    i hope this helps!

The use of language and poetry might be impressive with the King James Bible, but it is full of grammatical errors and mistranslations. That is why it isn't considered a "good" translation of the Bible.
