1 12 2009 Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wa salam) said, “Allah will cover up on the Day of Resurrection the defects (faults) of the one who covers up the faults of the others in this world”.[Muslim]
No one likes their sins to be exposed. It is the fitrah of the Muslim for him to be ashamed of his sins and even moreso when his sins are known to others. And when is a better time for our sins to be covered than on the day of the judgement? On the day when everyones actions will be known, the actions witnessed and the actions done in secret. Allah [aza wajal] tells us how to cover our sins for that day – simply by not exposing others sins in this dunya. Next time you hear of a sin of your fellow Muslim and as tempted as you are to pass it on just remember to cover it up *smiles*
