    Closing One’s Eyes In Salaat

    By Sh. Mashhur Hasan Aal-Salmaan

Ibn Al-Qayyim said: ‘Closing one’s eyes in Salaat is not of the prophet’s (saw) Sunnah. It is proved that he (saw) used to direct his eyesight towards his index finger when reciting Tashahhud nowhere else’.(1)

Al-Fairuza’baadi said: ‘The prophet (saw) used to open his blessed eyes in Salaat; and never closed them as some “worshippers” do these days’.(2)

Many ahaadith indicate that which Al-Fairuza’baadi affirmed such as: he (saw) once stretched his hand – during doing Salaat Al- Kusuf- to pick grapes from Jannah which was presented for him, he (saw) also once saw Hell-fire and the woman who was being tortured in it because of causing death to a cat, he (saw) once walked towards his Sutra because there was an animal trying to pass in front of him, he (saw) also pushed away a boy and a little girl who were trying to pass in front of him, he (saw) used to return Salaam to those greeting him using his hand, he (saw) once saw Shaitaan in his Salaat [trying to distract his attention] and he (saw) strangulated him. All these ahaadith affirm that he (saw) used to keep his eyes open in his Salaat.

The ‘Ulamah differed amongst themselves regarding the ruling of this act in Salaat; Imaam Ahmad and others considered it a detested act for this was the act of the Jews, others considered it as something permissible for it helps a muslim be fully transcend into serenity which is the soul of the Salaat.

The soundest of all opinions is that one should open one’s eyes in Salaat, provided that this does not distract one’s attention from it.

Closing eyes in Salaat is however, recommended in case one is unable to be fully given to Salaat due to some decorations or distractors in front of him. Allaah (swt) knows best.

    Footnotes:

    (1) This was previously fully narrated.

    (2) “Sifrus Sa‘aadah” (p. 20)

also on the topi cof salah- when you are standing you must look at where your head will rest when you prostrate and when you put your hand on your knees you must look between your feet-
i used to close my eyes before but realised its not allowed also when in salah the sitting postition your left foot points at right and the right foot is stood upwards so the toes point to mecca.

umm....... Well there's no hadith to support this view so it shud not be done. At ALL TIMES (except for salams to right and left) one must look at the prostration spot. there is NO PORRF to say one is supposed to look between ur feet when in rukuh

this is true, unless u r in ur fourth raka'ah, in that case, one is supposed to put his left foot under his right shin...

These r some mistakes the majority of people do not know about.

May Allaah guide us ot the right path, ameen

    Wassalaamu 'alaykum

Forgive me if i sounded rude.

    peace and love to all
