I know lying is haram in islam - bit what if your playing a game with your friends and part of the game was to lie/bluff in order to stay int he game
fo example = we were playing a card game caled mafia, in which you have to accuse each other about who they think the Mafia is - (if you have a royal card, your the mafia) then you have to lie and make a defence speech to tell others its not you to stay in the game)
is this type of lying ok?? as its just a game, or is all types of lying haram??
Asalaamu Alaikum Wr Wb, jazkaallah khayra for your question my sister. It is forbidden to play such games which involve lying, cheating, deception etc:
"f the game involves something that is haram or leads to something haram, then it is haram according to scholarly consensus, such as if it involves lying, false oaths, cheating, or wrongdoing or helping in wrongdoing. That is haram according to the consensus of the Muslims, even if it is in a race or contest....
The same applies if it involves some other kind of evil, such as getting involved in something that may lead to immorality, or cooperating in aggression, etc., or if the game attracts too many people, which leads to neglecting an obligatory duty or doing something haram. This kind of game and others like it are things that the Muslims are agreed are haram.
(Majmu` Al-Fataawa, 32/218)
So my sister avoid such games and warn others to also avoid them as this is also a way for shaythan to get a person to bring the habit of lying to lie in their daily lives and in certain situations that they may face in everyday life. There is no benefit in such games and they may have a detrimental effect on our imaan (faith).
Therefore my sister stay away from such games that involve constant lyiong lest it becomes a habit which becomes permeated into our daily lives. As Muslims we should forbid all evil and enjoin good. There are so many halal activities and games out there that is fun and will also be of benefit so go towards goodness and that which will benefit you and your friends and keep yourself and your friends away from evil that will cause harm in the long and short term.
Remember this life is a test for us to see whether we will stay within the limits to please Allah or whether we will go beyond the limits and please our eternal enemy shaythan!
I have one for more question - i used to have bad thought about our religon gos etc.. and they have just started to get better Al. but now i cant help thinking that i wasnt patient enough - that i dwelled on them too much - how do you know if you passed Allahs test or not - if i told many people including yourselves that i am having bad thouhgts about islam is that wrong - is it a sin to do so??? i never once stopped turning to allah for help but i still used to cry , get depressed and was trying to find compfort from my parents, cousins, uncles - so they are all aware that i do have these thoughts
and also yesterday i may have uttered some of my thoughts by mistake - will i be held accountable for this - as its been on my mind all night - i keep thinking why did i utter these words out loud -
I know it says you dont get sinned for your thoughts unless you utter them and i did -
