I just deactivated my facebook and am now experiencing some withdrawal symptoms.

lol. But Alhamdulillah, I find myself reading more articles and such! It's good inshallah. And if I really want to connect with friends, I'll try by other means, or even email. Right?

Jazax you guys. But I've changed the plans a bit lol. I plan to only check it once every three days. The reason being is that I have a few pages for marketing and I'm also a news reporter so it's good for checking local events etc. I just hope I can stick to the plan, insha-Allah!

Asalaamu Alaikum, My brother i was just going to congratulate you until i read this post. You have to accept that Facebook is an addiction just like a person is addicted to harmful substances. It is actually just like being addicted to harmful substances because it wastes a significant amount of time.

Do not let Shaythan and your nafs make excuses for you to continue wasting your time on Facebook. Your time is more precious than you can ever imagine and you will only regret this precious time that you are wasting on Facebook in the hereafter. That is when we will all see what we could have gained if we used our precious time wisely.

Your youth is too precious to waste and once it is gone you will never get it back again. So use the time you have now in your youth to get closer to Allah and spend time with good company and scholars and those who remember Allah. Use that time to do the work of dawah to do dhikr, recite Qur'an, memorise ayah's, dua's. Listen to lectures. There is so much good to do and so little time to do it.

Let me list just 5 reasons why one should give up Facebook:

    1. Wastes a significant amount of time

    2. Wasting your precious youth when you can be doing so much good

    3. Facebook are the enemies of Islam and have proven it twice: Once when they refused to ban "Burn the Qur'an day" group and secondly when they refused to ban "Draw cartoons of Prophet Muhammad" group. So if you enjoy using the facilities of the enemies of Islam then that is upto you.

    4. It is a place of great fitnah even if you do claim your account is restricted

    5. It is a place that hackers can easily gain access to your account details and personal information etc

It's your life so the choice is yours...

Even if I'm not on Facebook, I am online on messengers and spend my daytime in front of this stupid computer. I am addicted to internet, not Facebook. Any suggestions, how I can curb this thing? Out of 24 hours I am online for a significant amount of time, 14-16 hours. I think the main problem is my PC being always online, as I am typing this, I am online since I woke up and it's 10:18 here and I'll be until late night...entertaining myself on the internet, home alone.
I feel, I'm experiencing an emotional crisis...

Asalaamu Alaikum, you are not alone my brother. Unfortunatley many of us do not balance what we do in our daily lives properly and the result is that we waste years of our life only realising once a significant amount of time has already been wasted. The time we must act is now. We must try to balance our lives properly so that we are spending more time in worship than anything else. That is because the hereafter is for eternity and therefore we must put more investment into it than into this life which can end at any second. Here is what we need to do:

What we need to do is to draw up a daily plan that we can stick to which will give us some structure to our day and in which we can include limits and targets which we can try and reach each day. In this plan we should include what we need to do in our day. If you are studying then put in the times you are at school/college or University. If you are working then put in your work hours.

You need to put in your daily targets in this plan. Include in the plan how much studying you will do. Put in strict timings for how long you will spend each day on the internet and online. Put in a realistic time and stick to it. Be firm on yourself that you cannot waste anymore of your life and precious seconds and that you need to get a grip of yourself before anymore of your precious time is wasted.

Also include in the daily plan how much Qur'an you will recite each day. For example one juz, half a juz or even one page:

The Virtues of the Qur'an: http://www.islamicboard.com/quran/13...ues-quran.html

Also include how many nafils you will pray like for eg. Salaatul Duhaa, Salaatul Tahajjud etc:

VERY Rewarding Nafl Salaahs we can Pray Everyday: http://www.islamicboard.com/worship-...-everyday.html

How much Dhikr you will do like for example 1000 dhikr or 500 etc:

Easy Dhikr which is light on the tongue but heavy on the scales!: http://www.islamicboard.com/manners-...vy-scales.html

Also include how much knowledge you will gain each day like listening to one lecture a day, reading Qur'an translation or biography of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) etc and how much you will read like one page, two pages etc.

Include that you will learn one dua day: Fortress of the Muslim:

    http://www.islamicbulletin.org/free_...f_a_muslim.pdf

You will learn and implement one Sunnah a day into your life: Beautiful Sunnah's To Do Everyday:

    http://www.islamicboard.com/general/...our-lives.html

And that you will learn one Ayah of the Qur'an each day.

Give yourself realistic targets that you feel you can reach each day. Allah loves consistency so even if the good deed is small but you do it everyday then it is better than doing a big good deed sometimes.

Also set yourself targets for how you can better yourself as a person like for example, reduce swearing, lying, helping parents more, improving manners, thinking good about others etc. Then keep at it until you have eradicated it and then set yourself a target to improve another aspect of yourself.

You can also include that you will eat certain types of healthy foods or that you will do a certain amount of walking, jogging, gym etc

Also make a habit of reviewing your day at the end of each day and writing down how you can improve yourself tomorrow.

It is crucial we make a plan like this which is realistic and then internalise in ur minds that we need to stick to it in order that we can make the best of each day in doing everything to please Allah and refraining from anything that angers or displeases him.

    Re: Facebook Account Deactivated

    Salaam

read a nice article yesterday , let me share .

    Goodbye Facebook

My high school friends told me about Facebook. Since all of them had an account, I decided to create one myself although I was very nonchalant about my account.

I had never displayed my pictures on social sites and told myself that I would not display my pictures on Facebook. But then everybody I knew had their pictures on. So, I started uploading pictures, and before I knew it, I had a million pictures of mine there.

What happened next was that brothers I knew started adding me. I was reluctant in the beginning, but a voice inside me told me to grow up and that it was no big deal.

The first comment I got was from a brother I studied with – “Nice picture, Maryam.” What did he mean by that? I asked myself. Was he being chummy? Honestly speaking, I felt so bad when he wrote that comment on my wall, but then a voice inside my heart told me not to overreact and to show some manners so I thanked him.

I don’t know what happened next, but I started following the dunya. The values I stood up for and walked with became obsolete to me. My compromises turned into huge sacrifices. I became so desensitized and immune to the haram that was happening. I forgot that there was a God out there watching me, and I forgot that I was supposed to emulate the best of mankind- RasulAllah salla Allahu ‘alayhi wasallam. Random people would message me asking me for friend requests; they said I was “pretty” and they wanted to be friends with me.

...Sheikh Reda Bedier said: “Watch the little things; a small leak will sink a great ship.”

....when I had pulled back a bit from Facebook, I stopped interacting with a lot of brothers there because a verse from the Quran kept spinning in my head:

I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. [51:56]

FB is a social experiment, when you interact with people your mind gets stimulated but with FB the mind gets over stimulated, this over simulation will render normal one to one interaction with a human being useless........you'll just sit at home on the PC and interact using the internet, whilst being bullied by adverts to buy things.

I think the main problem is my PC being always online, as I am typing this, I am online since I woke up and it's 10:18 here and I'll be until late night...entertaining myself on the internet, home alone.

salaam brother..... i had the same problem a while ago..... i didnt go on fb much but spent a lot of time on other sites and messenger....... i kept telling myself it was taking over my life, then i ignored myself....... in the end i decided that the next day i wouldnt turn my laptop on, it had gotten to the point where i would be at work and only thinking of being home to go online..... it was really hard, i didnt know what to do with myself so i took my thoughts back to the time before i had internet..... the first day i watched a couple of films (before i would put a film on and half watch while playing games or chatting online) then i went for a walk, came home and read a little, all the time itching to put on my laptop..... the first 3 or 4 days were awful..... i felt nervous and edgy..... then a few days later i realised i hadnt thought of the internet at all and when i switched it on i spent half an hour skimming over the sites i go on, got really bored really quickly and turned it off...... i was single at the time and lived alone so i understand how hard it is for you.... inshallah you will find the strength to spend less time online

.... its not just the younger ones this affects....im in my 40's
