The actual aim of the tactic is not just having fun but locating enemy assets via triangulation, the trajectory of the snipe is observed to pinpoint the location of the sniper.
A bit like how the NSA is logging electronic traffic and flagging people, building and analyzing profiles, estimating, manipulating or even engineering possible future events.
But that's part of the trial of dajjal for Allah to see who ur with - He has a bigger database and endless storage space and inexhaustible resources and forces.
Or how Allah (swt) sent Lut (as) to warn and guide them to His mercy, sifted the people's hearts, allowed their malice and crimes to surface, justified their punishment and turned them upside down for their turning of things upside down.
May Allah guide us and protect us from fitnah at which we'll fail.
