"Life is an enjoyment .."

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

الدُّنْيَا مَتَاعٌ ، وَخَيرُ مَتَاعِهَا المَرْأَةُ الصَّالِحَةُ
“Life is an enjoyment and the greatest of its enjoyments is a *righteous* wife.”

And when the Prophet (PBUH) was asked:

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيَّ الْمَالِ نَتَّخِذُ ؟
“Which wealth should we seek to acquire?” His response was different to what they expected. He said:

لِيَتَّخِذْ أَحَدُكُمْ قَلْبًا شَاكِرًا ، وَلِسَانًا ذَاكِرًا ، وَزَوْجَةً مُؤْمِنَةً تُعِينُ أَحَدَكُمْ عَلَى أَمْرِ الْآخِرَةِ .
“One of you should seek to acquire a heart which thanks Allah, a tongue which remembers Allah and a *believing* wife who’ll assist you with regards to your hereafter.”

Thus we see the seriousness of cool, calm and collected spouse choosing right from the start. Ensure that your criteria are clear, that your vision is unmistakable and that your spouse shares them as well. Even if you have to wait a little while till this individual arrives, but the results of such patience is genuine serenity in both worlds.

As for the serenity of the first, Dunya ..

Well, fusses will not be kicked up if there’s excessive salt in the food, she won’t complain if he’s a little late home from work nor will he wage war at her if the cap of the toothpaste bottle goes missing. Their overarching mission in life of pleasing Allah (SWT) thus this flushes out pettiness from their homes.

As for the serenity of the second, the 'aakhira ..

This is when the couple are escorted to the gates of paradise together. As Allah (SWT) says:

إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ الْيَوْمَ فِي شُغُلٍ فَاكِهُونَ (55) هُمْ وَأَزْوَاجُهُمْ فِي ظِلَالٍ عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ مُتَّكِئُونَ (56)
“Indeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in joyful occupation! They *and their spouses* in shade, reclining on adorned thrones.”

May Allah SWT allow the unmarried amongst us to see beyond the veneer and assist them in making the choice that they won't later regret.
