Did you know that there are certain people whose hearts are separate to their bodies?
In gatherings, they are present yet absent. They are the happiest of people yet the most unsettled as well.
Such people look at you but they don't see you. They hear you but their listening is elsewhere. When conversing with them, they make you feel like you're everything although the whole world to them is nothing.
They are a select people who buy, sell, study, marry and excel in their worldly affairs but their aspirations are simply not with us.
They are incredibly different, they are incredibly rare, they are Allah's most favourite people.
He has freed up their hearts from every thought and ambition, and reserved it for something else altogether;
The thought of the Hereafter.
It's now all what they see, all what they hear, all what they long for.
The Prophets were such people.
Allah says,
وَاذْكُرْ عِبَادَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُولِي الْأَيْدِي وَالْأَبْصَارِ
"And remember Our servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - those of strength and [religious] vision."
Ponder over the next verse where Allah describes their demeanour in the most profound of ways,
إِنَّا أَخْلَصْنَاهُمْ بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكْرَى الدَّارِ
"We chose them for an exclusive quality:
Continual remembrance of the Home [the Hereafter]" (Al-Qur'aan)
Read the verse again, but this time between the lines.
