    Salam everyone,
I was reflecting on humanity and our beliefs and I was simply wondering what others thought about the following statement. Is it moral people or obedient people that go to heaven. If someone just so happen to be born into the right faith and followed it because they believed that they were being judged 24/7, that would make the person obedient and not necessarily a moral individual. I believe that if we use Islam as our framework ( as we should since this is an "islamic" website), there would be moral people both in heaven and hell. It really seems like the morality of the individual is of almost no concern in the decision of there final abode but rather the religion which they pledged their allegiance to. If they are lucky enough to be following the correct religion and were simply obedient then they would go to heaven (which is the case for almost every religion). So, what does everyone think, is it morality or obedience or maybe a healthy mix of the two and if that's the case does one take precedent over the other or are they equal.

Morality is different in every worldview. You would need to have morality that is in line with the true religion. To enter paradise, you need the correct belief/intentions combined with morally right actions to enter paradise. People who understand what is morally right do not necessarily enter paradise, instead they have to implement morality in their lives.

    This is absolutely true.

Your question is a part of what is called the faith vs. good works debate in Christianity, which rumbled on for centuries, and which partly gave rise to the Protestant Reformation.

To those of us outside religion, it's yet another example of why theistic religions make no sense.

There are differences in the details, but on the big questions most moral frameworks are in agreement. No moral system recommends murder or theft, for example, and we certainly don't need religion to tell us that these things are wrong.

    Peace

I think God asks us to go a little deeper, we are asked to forgive, to be merciful, not to judge others, and to give to the poor.

In the spirit of searching for God

You will never look into the eyes of anyone who does not matter to God.
