So I've been away from home the past six months and I'm waiting until I'm back to make up the fast that I missed during Ramadan.
The thing is though, this is somewhat an indefinite trip which I'm not sure how long it will be before I return home. It could be well over a year before I return.
I think it's safe to assume I should make up the fast asap, but is there a ruling for if I can't before next Ramadan?
You must try your utmost to make up all of the fasts before the next Ramadhaan. What reason is there that is preventing you from starting to make up those fasts from tomorrow?

He says he might still be on travel, Im also wondering that now, whether you can postpone indefinitely until reaching back home, since he's on safar?
Brother, if it is an indefinite trip, I'm assuming if you stay at a certain place for a week or more you could make up the fasts then? You would be away from home but essentially *not* travelling for a few days?
I don't know how many fasts you need to make up but say if you stopped somewhere for a few days at a time, you could slowly start making them up inshaAllah.
