    New attempt to divide Iraqis

“The Iraqi people are rightly demanding they have a government after they braved the threats of terrorists to go to the polls and vote,” the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in heavily guarded Green Zone area in Baghdad, during her most recent visit to Iraq accompanied by UK’s Foreign Secretary Jack Straw in what both claimed to be diplomatic mission to end deadlock over the formation of a new “unity” government in the conflict-torn country.

“The U.S. and Britain, and others, who have forces on the ground and have sacrificed here, have a deep desire and right to expect this process will keep moving forward,” Rice claimed.

As suggests an article on Mexico’s La Jornada, the two diplomats’ unexpected and suspicious visit to Iraq; three years after the occupation, seeking the formation of a united Iraqi government as both claimed, demonstrates the failure to of the occupation to install what it said was its mission, democracy and freedom.

Straw and Rice’s visit to Iraq this week, only proves the failure of the Iraqi elections both countries hailed as successful.

Three years after Bush gave the green light to invaders to enter Iraq and save the nation from the hands of the “dictator” Saddam Hussein, should now be flourishing as a solid, stable and peaceful democracy. But that’s not the case in Iraq.

With sectarian violence rampant since February 22 attack on a Shia shrine in Samarra, cars, roadside bombings, and targeted killings, are threatening to tear the country into pieces controlled by sectarian rivals, bringing the risk of an open civil war that could spread to reach neighboring countries.

This demonstrates the failure of the adventure begun by George W. Bush and Britain in 2003 under the guise of planting the flag of liberty and democracy in Iraq on one hand, and the inability of any country’s military, no matter how strong, to occupy Middle Eastern nation on the other hand, the article further states.

Rice didn’t deny that. Before she flew to Iraq earlier this week, the Secretary of State admitted that the U.S. had committed "thousands of tactical errors" regarding its policy in Iraq.

However, Rice’s trip to Iraq comes as increasing evidence that the U.S. never learns from its mistakes. The American and British diplomats’ visit came amid mounting pressure on the Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Al Jaafari to step down. They went to Iraq to intervene and, not settle the standoff over the formation of a unity government, but to add to the pressure already piled on Jaafari, and persuade him resign, and thus pave the way for the creation of a government that would be obedient to its American and British masters.

U.S. and Britain destroyed any pretence of legitimacy that may have remained from the electoral process and the institution-building organized by the foreign troops, according to La Jornada editorial.

Rice and Straw were sent to Iraq this time to marginalize the power of the Shias which will further widen the gap between the country’s ethnic groups and thus fuel the current sectarian violence.

It’s plain and clear now that the upcoming Iraqi government will be a mere creature of the invaders, and that the democracy and freedom U.S. and Britain falsely promised are as imaginary as the never found weapons of mass destruction, which were used as a pretext of this war.

Most of the Iraqi nation believe the only way to put a lid on the nationwide bloodshed is to have a government grouping of Shia, Sunnis and Kurds.

But the fact of Rice and Straw’s visit and the tone of their comments made it clear that a unity government in Iraq is what meets U.S. and Britain’s requirements.

“It needs a strong leader who’s a unifying force and someone who can bring stability and meet the challenges of the Iraqi people,” Rice claimed.

It’s an inevitable fact, the longer Anglo-American forces remain in Iraذ, the greater the political, military and human catastrophe will be.
