    salam,

erm...sis if you go for the plan in uni and then study that but i think it will be much easier for you to just take the plan in uni instead of going for nursing but then again you will need that though so it's best to go for the nursing too..

sis it's best to talk to someone who knows the nursing stuff cause i don't am not into that am into erm.. forget it:X

    Re: midwife or nurse?

    Well sister...

If you study Nursing first and you complete your degree then Insha Allah it will take you only 18 months to do Midwifery. However if you take Midwifery then you can ONLY be a midwife...you won't have as much skills. Also if you wanted to go aboard to E.g to countries like Spain they don't reconise Midwifery degree alone. They only reconise Adult Nursing. This is the case with some counties.

Now...Let me give you a little input about Nursing when it comes to Islam...

Whether you are doing Adult Nursing or child Nursing...you'll have to deal with...MEN...attending to them i.e. washing them...etc In which this is NOT islamic.

I would recommend you therefore to study Midwifery.

Could you not train as a midwife first, and then do a nursing degree, if you still fancy it?
Is the midwifery qualification also at degree level? Because then you might find that you can take a shorter nursing course, probably just a year or two, to take you up to the nursing degree.

Check it out - you still have time!

I always fancied becoming a midwife, but in the end I changed my mind and trained as an occupational therapist. (Bigger word, you see?!)

    Good luck!

Yeah of course sister but why do you want to mix halal and haram. Look at it this way, if there was no Male Nurse to be found to wash the men patients then yes you can do that...but here in Nursing there is male Nurses and there is female Nurses.

In Nursing you are dealing with men patients. Washing them and attending to them, you think these Nusrsing people are going to have mercry on you? You are going to ask you to go a give a bed bath to a MAN! Touching and seeing his pravite parts. Do you really want to put yourself in that situation as a practsing muslim sister?

As well as that you have to consider your uniform....is it islamic?

    Re: midwife or nurse?

But imagine how beneficial it would be for Muslim patients to be attended and cared for by a Muslim nurse!
Do hospitals not provide uniforms appropriate for Muslims? (Within reason, i.e. what's practical and doesn't contradict health and safety)
I've never really thought about it.

Nursing would give you a better grounding - and you could move into different specialities, such as children, mental health, elderly, home visiting etc.

Time to make a decision, girl!

    Blessings.

Yes Glo of course theres benefits of been a Nurse. But When your a Muslim and espically in a non-muslim country you have to think once before you take on a proffesion you see...you have to say to your self what does Allah and His messager say about it...etc other others you'll end up doing forbidden things....

    Allah Says in Surah 49

(O you who believe! Make not (a decision) in advance before Allah and His Messenger,) meaning, do not rush in making decisions before him, rather, follow his lead in all matters.

I admite their many benefits to Nursing but mixing al-Halal and al-Haram using the way to go about things....

In addition some universitys have issues with uniforms...you have to fight and battle with them to get a simple long dress!

Fo the sister to issue a fatwah like that is dangours.. the best thing you can do is ask the scholars....and when you tell them that your doing Nursing tell them the full story!...the uniform..the tasks you have to do ...everything from top to bottom Say what they have to say....

    Re: midwife or nurse?

A scholar said the below in regards to the issue:

Nursing is one of the best jobs you could have when your intention is to help people removing their pain and providing them with the medicine they need.
However, you can't do this to the opposite sex. Alhamdulillah nowadays there are lots of men and women who work as nurses so there's no urgent need to deal with the opposite sex.
