RIYADH, Arab News — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia yesterday donated $10 million to the United Nations World Food Program’s (WFP) operations in the Horn of Africa, where over 6 million people in six countries are rapidly running out of food following several seasons of severe drought.
The ceremonial signing of the agreement between the Kingdom and the WFP was held at the Ministry of Finance.
“Since the Kingdom was involved in the contentious efforts of extending relief to the afflicted areas all over the world, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques decreed to allocate $10 million for providing the countries with food stuffs distributed by the WFP,” said General Manager of Expenditures in the Ministry of Finance Mohammed Al-Moqetib.
He also said that the activities of delivering the relief for the Horn of Africa countries would be launched this summer.
