I was just about to continue with my project and the document won't allow me to type or change anything. The icons: print,save at the top are not being allowed to click on.
When I try to type, a message comes up and says:
This modification is not allowed because the document is locked.
If you see this message at the bottom of the application window when you try to modify a document: "This modification is not allowed because the document is locked," the document is protected with an editing restriction of No changes (Read only) or Comments in Word 2003 (or a restriction of Comments in Word 2002 and Word 2000). The document author used the Protect Document features to restrict editing. Menu commands also might be unavailable, depending on the permissions that were granted to you by the document author.
Note When you open a document that is protected by Information Rights Management (IRM) in Word 2003, you might have permission to view the document but not to change it. When you open the document, the Shared Workspace task pane opens by default on the right side of the application window. In the task pane, click View My Permissions to see your permissions.
The thing is I do not have enough information about your problem, if you were to go to a geek forum, you'd be flamed straight off for not defining the proper context.
Can you copy the text? I.E. Hold Ctrl A then Ctrl C to copy it to the clipboard if so, then just paste it into a new Word file.
Also, have you closed the file and opened it again? Can you open it in WordPad?
What I mean by changing the permissions is that you can right click the actual file (the icon you would normally click to open the file), and check what the settings are, such as "Read Only", if Read only is ticked, uncheck it...I can't give proper details as I'm using a different version of Word so don't know if same rules apply. If you do that then MAYBE it will let you edit.
You can just change it back if it does'nt work, there should be no problem with losing the work...The reason I said maybe was because I've never experienced this problem before, it might be something in Word or you might be able to change it from outside...
You still hav'nt told us whether you can open and close the file...if you can then just make a copy of the file and then do what I said about permissions on one of them...

I can open,close and view the file but NOT add more text.

I have spent day and night on my project. Though it is only the background..it is still Important information. This is the beginning to getting my hands on the National Award for Physics Project.
I may seem a little soft and sensitive towards my project...you know why.

Hmmm, I performed a search on Google and some of the results say whether your version of Office was activated or not... a way to check if that is the problem is to open some excel file to see if excel still works or not...
I think we are getting somewhere now.
Everytime I click to open my file it asks me to activate...something.
I don't know whether I should activate via internet or phone. Its up to mommy.
Brother, after I have activated it, do you think they will unlock...the lock?
Go to your documents (or wherever it is saved)....Right click on the icon and go to properties and then at the bottom there should be a 'read only' check box, if it is checked, uncheck it

Are you sure you can't upload the file, like send it in an email etc? I don't see why you should'nt be able to ...
