I'm just curious as to whether you regard yourselves as a "British Muslim." Are you proud to be British or is it just religion alone? Do you support England in a sports games? Why is it that so many British Muslims rather support Pakistan when playing England at, say, cricket? Do you find the Union Jack, St. George Cross offensive?

    Re: British Muslims

    Hello there England,

    Welcome to the forum

I'm just curious as to whether you regard yourselves as a "British Muslim." Are you proud to be British or is it just religion alone?
Islam teaches us that all people are equal regardless of where they are from or what their skin colour is:

O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2). Verily, Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Aware. [Qur'an, 49:13]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said, "O mankind, there is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab, or for a non-Arab over an Arab, or for a white over a black, or for a black over a white. All of you are descended from Adam and Adam has been created from dust of the ground" (Ahmad).

So in this sense, it does not matter (as far as I am aware) whether we are called British Muslims, Indian Muslims, British-Chinese, or whatever, if that is simply to denote where we are living or where we are originally from.

Do you support England in a sports games? Why is it that so many British Muslims rather support Pakistan when playing England at, say, cricket?
I think that varies from person to person, but people tend to have a close connection to their original countries and will often support them over the place that their family migrated to.

Do you find the Union Jack, St. George Cross offensive?
Due to its representing the Christian Cross, then of course I do not agree with it. But it is the right of a Christian country to bear the symbol of their choice on their flag, just as it is the right of others to sport their own. I wouldn't go waving it about myself though.

    Peace .

Basicly brother Muhammad answered my Question.

I am not pakistani, neither no I support Pakistan. Actually I hardly watch CRICKET. However I do support the English football/Cricket teams when they play against other countries teams. I am a Liverpool fan from London.

British Muslims should not find the union jack offensive just like Christian Iraqi's (which make up 5% of the population) should not be offended by all the islamic things on their countries flags ect.

    Re: British Muslims

Fair enough. There are too many liberals in this country saying that Muslims are offended by Christmas, Easter, a cross on a chain (eg. British Airways,) flags. I heard that they don't show Jesus or Mary or any Christian symbols on Christmas and Easter cards anymore. That's wrong. This is why people are getting angry and impatient. The more tolerant the people of this country are the more the government punishes us. I recognise that the claims that "the muslims are offended" are wrong but welcome to Blair's Britain. How slimey he is.

    Re: British Muslims

I am Muslim. I was born, raised and live in the UK, so I am also British. St George and the Union Jack don't offend me. It's not a question of not being proud of being British or whatnot - British is my nationality, Islam is my religion.

I heard that they don't show Jesus or Mary or any Christian symbols on Christmas and Easter cards anymore. That's wrong.
Yeah. Political correctness gone mad. They are Christian festivals so they should have Christian symbols, surely.

This is why people are getting angry and impatient. The more tolerant the people of this country are the more the government punishes us. I recognise that the claims that "the muslims are offended" are wrong but welcome to Blair's Britain. How slimey he is.
I don't see why Muslims should be offended at Christian symbols in this country. People of any religion should be allowed to practice and manifest their religion in any way they like (so long as they're not hurting anyone in the process).

It is ridiculous how Christian symbols seem to be disappearing from traditionally Christian festivals. I say 'traditionally' because, unfortunately, the card companies have got their claws in and commercialised and cheapened everything.

i dont think its really liberals that are saying muslims are offended. these people are not liberals. they are spoiling things for muslims, we dont have to do anything.

You should start a new thread. Grab attention to it and I'm sure you'll get replies. I don't live in London and I'm non-muslim so I cannot be of any help. Soz.

I'm just curious as to whether you regard yourselves as a "British Muslim." Are you proud to be British or is it just religion alone?
Yes, I do identify with both Britain and Islam. But I would never be proud of my country wherever I lived, I think it's illogical for people to be proud of their country since they don't choose where they are born.

Do you support England in a sports games?
I don't watch much sport, but I generally go for England due to peer pressure.

Why is it that so many British Muslims rather support Pakistan when playing England at, say, cricket?
I think that this is because Pakistan is part of the cultural heritage of many British Muslims, not because of Islam.

Do you find the Union Jack, St. George Cross offensive?
No, but I would not wave one myself, since they contain Christian symbols. The St. George Cross was invented by genocidal Crusading Knights anyway, so of course I don't want to wave that. I also don't find Christmas or Easter decorations offensive either. I would find it offensive if the government decided to make Eid a national holiday, because it would be flooded with comericialist rubbish and would loose it's meaning.
