Bring the Mandate for Peace to Washington DC on Jan. 27

    Tell the New Congress:

Act NOW to Bring the Troops Home!

Join United for Peace and Justice in a massive march on Washington, D.C., on Sat., January 27, to call on Congress to take immediate action to end the war.

On Election Day the voters delivered a dramatic, unmistakable mandate for peace. Now it's time for action.

On January 27, 2007, we will converge from all around the country in Washington, D.C. to send a strong, clear message to Congress and the Bush Administration: The people of this country want the war and occupation in Iraq to end and we want the troops brought home now!

    Peace Takes Courage

    By Cindy Sheehan

I have a new friend. She is a 15 year young peace activist named Ava Lowery.

She is disgusted with the war and with the Bush regime and she started to use her talents for animation to make cartoons that oppose Bush and the war in Iraq.

She first came to my attention when I read an article about all of the ugly hate mail she is getting on her site for a particularly poignant and brilliant animation she has called: "WWJD."

It is a heartbreaking piece that has a child singing: "Jesus loves me" and during the song she shows pictures of dead, wounded, bloody, and screaming Iraqi children.

She wanted to show how Jesus loves Iraqi children also which is apparently a frightening concept to the people who practice Bushianity.

For this inspired bit of courageous matriotism, Ava has been the object of intense and horribly ugly hate emails and not too subtle threats to do her bodily harm.

...please go to her site: PeaceTakesCourage.com and drop a note of support to our little sister in peace.

Re: Peace Takes Courage : Act NOW to Bring the Troops Home!

    Salaam/peace;

    Stop it Now

    By Debi Smith

"Newspapers are unable, seemingly, to discriminate between a bicycle accident and the collapse of civilization." --George Bernard Shaw

02/13/07 "ICH " -- -- The news media has been focusing an astounding amount of attention on the death of a former playboy playmate and troubled reality tv star. No offense to the memory of Anna Nicole Smith, or to her friends, family, loved ones, and fans. Truly.

It's understandable that news outlets would report her death. And yes, her death was more than a mere bicycle accident. But on the day after her death was reported, it was still "Breaking News", on every "news" channel, and front page news in hundreds of papers.
……….It went on and on, and is still going on several days later.
Yes, it's tragic that she died, but what about the troops dying in Iraq almost every single day? Do they get the kind of attention that Smith's death, and life, have garnered? Are their lives, and deaths, less meaningful?

…..Let's start with writing The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX (it never hurts to try), asking them to give as much focus and space to the brave men and women in the military who are dying nearly every day, as much time and space as they are giving to Anna Nicole Smith (or whatever celebrity or drivel that is taking up news space at the moment).

And tell them to start asking the difficult questions about this war, and about the escalating talk (all a replay of what came before we invaded Iraq) of war or air attacks against Iran.

Imagine what might happen if hundreds, or thousands, or hundreds of thousands of us demanded this from our news media?

I'd like to personally commit to Molly's old fashioned campaign by posting weekly reports about the people dying in this illegal invasion to different locations on the internet.

I will do so out of respect for the deceased, out of care for the living, and out of hope that in some small way it can help make the unnecessary dying stop. The focus will mostly be on American troop deaths, but will also hopefully begin to include information on coalition and Iraqi deaths as well.
I begin here by recognizing members of the United States Military who died in Iraq--as reported by the Department of Defense--in the first seven days of February 2007.

……Sgt. Randy J. Matheny, 20, of McCook, Neb., died Feb. 4 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.
…….Spc. Eric R. Sieger, 18, of Layton, Utah, died Feb. 1 at Buritz, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle rolled over.

These men and women--someone else's son or daughter, father or mother, husband or wife, friend or lover--deserve our attention, and the attention of the news media. As do all the other men and women still in Iraq.

To the nineteen men and one woman listed above, who died in the space of a week, and to all those who have died needlessly before you, may your lives and sacrifice be recognized, appreciated, and mourned appropriately.

In your memory, in memory of the estimated 650,000 Iraqi civilians who have died since 2003, and for all those still fighting in, and living amidst, this illegal war, our rally cry will be: STOP IT NOW.

Debi Smith will continue reporting on this issue until it is no longer necessary to do so. If you would like to contribute information about the lives of the men and women needlessly sacrificed in this illegal war, please feel free to contact Debi at [email protected]

    Greetings and peace be with you Muslim Woman;

The U.S. War On Iraq Costs
    $358,287,970,262
That must be costing every man woman and child in America dearly, All that money seems to have been used to spread enmity.

    I just have some questions,

Could all that money have been spent in a better way?
Would it have been enough to make poverty history?
Could it have been used to solve global warming?
Could it have been used to make the world a better place?

In the spirit of praying for peace on Earth.

sure ; forget about Iraqi people .... the money could have been spent for US poor & Katrina victims.

Would it have been enough to make poverty history?
----- may be not but if properly used , many people could improved living standards.

Many children don't get fresh drinking water even in USA . US Govt. should have spent money to provide them clean water.

    Salaam/peace;

    Iraqis are People, too

    By Cindy Sheehan

After spending two heart wrenching hours listening to two Iraqi gentlemen, one an educator, one a scientist, giving agonizing testimony about what is really going on in Iraq (outside the Green Zone), in Istanbul,

I returned to my nearby hotel room and read something from the AP that tore my heart apart even further.

.....A majority of Americans do find the casualties on both sides unacceptable, but now it's time to go from thinking "unacceptable" to action.

We need to get out of our comfy homes and hit the streets in the millions on March 17th, especially in Washington, DC, if for anything else, to demonstrate to the people of the world that citizens in democracies do not sanction killing innocent people.

We need to do it for our soldiers, but more importantly for the innocent citizens of Iraq. We need to demand an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq and we need to demand impeachment for BushCo to restore the peace and to restore our reputation in the world.

After the program, the Sheik approached me with a translator and apologized to me for Casey’s death saying that: “We don’t want to kill your soldiers, but we are protecting our country, it is our country.”

Time to give the Iraqis their country back.

We never should have allowed Bloody BushCo to go there in the first place.

I know , it won't happen.....who can force Bush & Chenny to send their kids in Iraq ?

I did not read the articles......interested readers may visit the sites.

Not Oil, But Israel: Behind the Iraq War
    Stephen Sniegoski

    http://www.thornwalker.com/ditch/snieg_oilwar.htm

The most popular argument of the critics of the Iraq war has been that the United States went to war for oil — that is, that the war had nothing to do with combating terrorism.

Writing in the Christian Science Monitor before the war, Brendan O'Neill reported that "for many in the antiwar movement, the idea that the Bushies' plan to invade the Gulf to get their greasy hands on more oil has become an article of faith, an unquestionable truth repeated like a mantra." ...

That goes against what I regard as the fundamental reason for the war: the war was led by neoconservatives and fought in the interests of Israel, at least as Likudniks envision Israel's interests.

    Iraq: A War For Israel
    Mark Weber

    http://w ww.ihr.org/leaflets/iraqwar.shtml

So if the official reasons given for the war were untrue, why did the United States attack? Whatever the secondary reasons for the Iraq war, the crucial factor in President Bush’s decision to attack was to help Israel.

With support from Israel and America’s Jewish- Zionist lobby, and prodded by Jewish "neo- conservatives" holding high-level positions in his administration, President Bush — who was already fervently committed to Israel — resolved to invade and subdue one of Israel’s chief regional enemies.

Leaders don't actually do anything. You should know that by now! They point fingers. That's what "leader" means, finger pointer. They'll just continue pretending that they understand what the soldiers are going through. They'll occasionally pop their head in, say hello, and then high-tail it outta there, just as they've been doing. The Americans will never send someone in a position of leadership where they could get hurt--if they do, they won't have the chance to sit around all day arguing about trivial issues. They can't do their job of ignoring the major issues if they're out on the front lines.

You silly people and your common sense...

Re: Peace Takes Courage : Act NOW to Bring the Troops Home!

americans (who are finally starting to wake up, when they can tear themselves away from the shopping mall long enough), can demand whatever they want.
    the gov't does not care.
some people believe that u.s. is a democracy. it is not. we are allowed to vote between 2 people who are not terribly different from each other and never represent the average american, but rather serve the interests and corporations who buy them their office.
uk i think is not that different. i believe the majority of people in uk (unlike in u.s.) opposed the war even in the beginning.

    Salaam/peace;

    Poison DUst

    A Must Watch Video

Poison DUst tells the story of young soldiers who thought they came home safely from the war, but didn't. Of a veteran's young daughter whose birth defect is strikingly similar to birth defects suffered by many Iraqi children.

    - Every American who cares about our troops should watch this film.

Everyone who cares about the innocent civilians who live in the countries where these weapons are used should watch this film.

More US citizens think Iraq war 'unwinnable:

A NEW poll published in the US shows growing pessimism among Americans about the Iraq war with only 28 per cent saying the US will probably or definitely win the conflict.

Turn Off the Life Support: America is Dead

    By DOUG THOMPSON

Turn off the life support. Disconnect the IVs. Bring in the priest for last rites. The US of A is brain dead with no chance for revival.

    The Deserter's Tale

US Soldier Joshua Key has told Tony Jones about his new book, which concludes that American soldiers were behaving like terrorists in the Iraq war, as a result of their training.

    White Hot Rage

    By Cindy Sheehan

I have long suspected that Blackwater Security and L. Paul Bremer (what’s his nickname? Scooter? Pookie?) were responsible for the insurgency in Iraq and subsequently the death of my son, Casey.

I am reading Jeremy Scahill’s new book: Blackwater and it is doing nothing to decrease my suspicions, only confirm them. Continue

    Riverbend - Baghdad Burning

Audio - Everyone, Americans and British especially, should hear this account of Baghdad under occupation.

A dramatised, searing, first-hand account of life in occupied Baghdad following the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and drawn from the real life internet blog of a young Iraqi woman, known only for security reasons as Riverbend.
