10 Reasons We Should Memorise the Qur'an

Assalaamu alaykum wa Rahmat Allaah,

I just wanted to share something quite amazing about memorisation of The Qur'aan.

I once knew this kid in my area since he around 7 or 8 years old. I grew up with him. He was quite a character. His father was a Hafidh of The Qur'aan ma sha Allaah.

Anyway I moved from that area a no. of years back and didn't see the kid for quite some time. I heard he went to Egypt for some time.

Anyway a few days ago I bumped into him. I was very surprised because I wasn't expecting to see him. It happened so unexpectedly.

I was really happy to see him as that little kid I once knew was all grown up and now looked like a young man with a beard ma sha Allaah.

I asked him how old he was now and he said he was 16.

I spoke to him a for a while and learnt that he went to Egypt to memorise The Qur'aan. It took him 2 years and now he's a Hafidh at the age of 16, ma sha Allaah.

He led the tarawih prayers this year with another older shaykh, ma sha Allaah.

When I heard that I was so happy for him as he has been able to achieve one of the greatest achievements a muslim can achieve. May Allaah help us understand and act upon what we memorise.

Stories like this should be a source of inspiration for us because if someone that young can memorise The Qur'aan then surely it is something that adults can also do.

Allaah is The One who's help is sought in this. There is no ease except in that which Allaah makes easy.

I complained to Waki` about my bad memorisation

So he advised me to abandon sins

He said: Know that knowledge is light

But Allah's Light is not granted to a disobedient!

Yes we should. Memorizing just a few verses daily and then reciting them in all the prayers (every Rakah) is an excellent way to memorize the Quran steadily. So how much are you memorizing daily / weekly? I am revising Juz 30 now which I memorized before.

The best person is one who learns the Quran and teaches it, and the one who memorize the Quran will get Great reward from Allah, and rewards for those who recite the Quran with difficulties.

The memoriser of the Qur'an is placed in front of others in a common grave, closer to the qiblah, if it is essential to bury him with others.

It was narrated that Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with them both) said: “The Prophet would wrap two of the men slain at Uhud in a single cloth, then he would ask, ‘Which of them knew more Qur’aan?’ If one of them was pointed out to him, he would put that one in the lahd (niche in the side of the grave) first. And he said, ‘I will be a witness over these people on the Day of Resurrection.’ He commanded that they should be buried with their blood, without being washed, and that no funeral prayer should be offered for them.” (al-Bukhaari, 1278)

Emotional: Father can't stop crying when his daughter completes memorisation of the Quran:

JazakAllah khair for sharing such a good post. These 10 reasons are indeed, an eye-opener.
