Nah, that's absolute rubbish, and if I remember correctly recently that was proven not to be true. I wake up stiff as a plank if I sleep on a hard mattress. Women have curves and if you sleep on a hard mattress it won't support you properly hence why I think medium is best. Now for the pillows, I find it best to have 2-3 thin pillows better than one fat one because you can plump and flatten them at different points. That way they mould better to your neck and shoulders and offer better support.
If nothing works you can always try a hammock
