Hi,

I've got two Tafsir's at home but unfortunately I didn't do my homework and found that they're riddled from top to bottom with Salafi/Wahhabist doctrine:

http://islamicbookstore.com/b6671.html - Claims that Jews and Christians actually turned into pigs and apes where as most commentators (such as Muhammad Asad) take it to mean having the manners/personal characteristics of them rather than the literal.

http://islamicbookstore.com/b6506.html - To put it mildly appears to have a bit of a beef with anyone who happens not to be like him and his beliefs (call him and equal opportunity hater for short).

(most on here: http://islamicbookstore.com/books-the-qur-an-commentaries-of-the-qur-an.html tend to have a saudi/wahabbi/salafi agenda).

I'm looking for a Tafsir that sticks to the point and doesn't attempt to push an agenda.

Greetings kawaiigardiner,

I think you need to be careful about saying "most commentators". Muhammad Asad's commentary and translation contains many errors and many views which go against the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the consensus of Muslim scholars, May Allah (swt) forgive him.

A tafseer should follow the correct principles of explaining the Qur'an. This includes turning to the Qur'an itself as well as the Sunnah for explanation, and there are many other aspects involved. Among the best and most widely known is Tafseer Ibn Katheer.

Regards.

Do you even know what it is you're rejecting i.e. the so-called "Salafi/Wahhabist doctrine"?

what is a whabi- salfi doctrine?.. do any Muslims on board recognize doctrines other than the Islamic doctrines?

Does a scholar of Islam automatically denote a new sect in Islam?
sobhan Allah.. too lazy to correct the ignorance of these morons that crawl out of the sewers?
