الحض على الترحال

ما في المقام لذي عقلٍ وذي أدبٍ----------من راحة فدع الأوطان واغترب

سافر تجد عوضاً عمن تفارقه----------وانصب فإن لذيذ العيش في النصب

إني رأيت وقوف الماء يفسده----------إن ساح طاب وإن لم يجر لم يطب

والأسد لولا فراق الأرض ما افترست----------والسهم لولا فراق القوس لم يصب

والشمس لو وقفت في الفلك دائمة ً----------لملها الناس من عجم ومن عرب

والتبر كالترب ملقي في أماكنه----------والعود في أرضه نوع من الخطب

فإن تغرب هذا عز مطلبه----------وإن تغرب ذلك عز كالذهب ​

There is no peace of mind for the one with intellect and sophistication in remaining stationary - so leave homelands and and go to foreign fields,

Travel! You will find a replacement for what you have left. Crash out! The sweetness of life is in crashing out,

I have seen that standing water stagnates, if it flows it nourishes, and if it doesn't run, it doesn't nourish,

If the lion doesn't leave his den he can't hunt, and if the arrow doesn't leave the bow it won't strike,

If the sun stood still in its course then people, Arab and non-Arab, would become bored,

Gold dust is as the earth thrown in its places, and oud is a type of firewood in its ground,

If one travels this, his ambition is honoured. If one travels this, he is honoured like gold.

فأخو التجارة خـائف مترقب * مما يلاقي من خسارة أمره
وأخو الوزارة حـائر متفـكر * مما يقاسي من نوائب دهره
وكذلك السلطـان في أحكامه * رهن الهموم على جلالة قدره
ولقد حسدت الطير في أوكاره * فوجدت أكثر ما يصاد بوكره
تالله لو عـاش الفتى من دهره * ألفا من الأعوام مالك أمره
متلـذذا فيهـا بكل مليـحة * متنعما فيها بنعمى عصره
لا يعتريـه السقـم فيها مرة * أبدا ولا تطرا الهموم بفكره
وصفت له الأيـام حتى إنـه * لا تنطق الأصوات عند مقره
ما كان ذلك كلـه ممـا يفي * بمبيت أول ليلة في قبره​


Who has found true peace of mind
In better, or perhaps in worse?
The businessman is worn with fear
Of loss in his commerce
The statesman lives in fretful dread
Of times and tides adverse
The potentate, for all his power
In thrall to angst and fears
For after every glad report
Comes news that rocks his piers
I’d envy the birds, but the nest, I found
Is oft where the kill occurs
By Allah, if a man had to live, in control
Of his life, for a thousand years
Indulging in every beauty’s delight
In a bliss that for life endures
With never an illness obstructing his way
And he never a worry incurs
And tranquility reigns, and his days are serene
And no noise ever reaches his ears—
None of that would avail him the first night spent
In the grave, when he ends his years.

The Highest Example



Truly the Faqih is a Faqih because of his actions

Not because of his articulated speech or saying
And likewise a leader is a leader because of his nature
Not because of his nation or his men
And likewise a rich man is a rich man due to his state
And not due to his possessions or wealth

The servants have no right over Him that He must render,
Never! Neither, in His presence, is any effort wretched.
If they are punished, then by His Justice; if they are in bliss,
Then by His beneficence. He is the Kind, the Vast.

Diwan of Imam Ash-Shafi’i we find:


فقيها وصوفيا فكن ليس واحدا فإني وحق الله إياك أنصح

فذلك قاس لم يذق قلبه تقى وهذا جهول كيف ذو الجهل يصلح

Faqîhan wa-s.ufiyyan fakun laysa wâh.idan
fa’innî wa-h.aqqillâhi iyyâka ans.ah.u
Fadhâlika qâsin lam yadhuq qalbuhu tuqan
wahâdhâ jahûlun kayfa dhûl-jahli yas.luh.u

Truly, by the Divine Right, I am advising you sincerely!
For the former is hardened, his heart tastes no Godwariness,

The king of Sanjar wrote to Sheikh Abdul Qâdir Jailâni (Rahimahullah) that he wanted to grant the state of Nimroz to his khanqah. He replied,


May my fortune be blackened like the umbrella of the king of Sanjar,
if I have the desire for your kingdom.
Since I have achieved the kingdom of the latter part of the night,
I am not prepared to buy your kingdom for even a grain of barley.​

The kingdom of the night is the worship of Allâh and performing tahajjud. As Moulana Rumi says that if you achieve the taste of one sajdah, you will also leave the kingdom like Ibrâhim Ibn Adham (Rahimahullah).
 



"In an authentic quatrain composed by Rumi, he tells us:

I am the servant of the Qur'an as long as I have life.
I am the dust on the path of Muhammad, the Chosen one.
If anyone quotes anything except this from my sayings,
I am quit of him and outraged by these words.
 
Junayd said: “I have never benefitted from anything in the way I have benefitted from these couplets which I heard from a slave girl who sang them in a room. She said:


When I say: Abandoning [of others for your love] has given me threadbare clothes,
You will say: If there was no abandoning [of others] then love would not be pleasant,
And if I were to say: This heart, passion has burned it,
You will say: Surely passion is the honour of the heart,
And if I were to say: What sin have I committed? She would say,
Your life is such a sin that no other sin can compare with it.​


Junayd said: “I became stunned and screamed. So the owner of the house came out and said: ‘Oh master, what has befallen you?’ I said: ‘It happened on account of what I heard.’ He said: ‘She is a gift from me to you.’ So I said: ‘I accept and she is free for the sake of Allah.’ I then married her to a man, and she gave birth to a pious son who performed the Hajj thirty times on foot.”
