A question that came to my mind regarding the SOUL

I have made an account on this website as a place to continuously share some information I have gained from reading countless articles
and books online.
I always keep in my mind that Allah knows and we do not know ,we know what he taught us and revealed to us.

As you know there is this ayah : "If thou couldst only see when the evildoers are in the agonies of death, and the angels are stretching out their hands: 'Give up your souls! Today you shall be recompensed with the chastisement of humiliation for what you said untruly about God, waxing proud against His signs.'"

My question is regarding "give up your souls".While in the quran the arabic word used is "anfus".
As far as I kow ,the ruh/soul is breathed into a human body in the womb of his/her mother .
Before it is breathed into the human body ,the two were seperate ,the soul and the human body.Now once the soul is breathed into the human body ,the two together are called Nafs ?

While the english translation says yield up your souls ,the quran says anfus ,which lead me to think that a soul becomes a nafs after it is placed inside a human body to experience the material world (which is the lowest heaven ,dont know where they got that material world thing from).

So when the time of death arrives ,the angels say yield up your anfus and not yield up your SOULS.

Now my question is : the human body received a soul ,and that soul leaves the body as a nafs ,which could mean that nafs could mean a soul that has experienced the worldly life ?

I want to illustrated my thought as follows : The soul is like and empty functioning hard disc ,before usage in the world called a ruh ,once data through the senses and experiences in the world is placed on it ,it is called a nafs and leaves as a nafs.

What are you thoughts about this issue ,or is it just a translation issue ?

The first item to clarify is the following verse:

017:085
:
And they ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning the Ruh (the Spirit); Say: "The Ruh (the Spirit) is from the command of my Master/ of the things which are my Master's concern - and there is not given to you(s) of knowledge concerning it except a tiny amount."

Therefore we cannot really go very far beyond speculation in trying to understand what we can about them.


Secondly: we can't even be certain which "Rooh" Allah is specifically referring to in the verse, since the Rooh al Quddoos (pure and sanctified spirit), the Rooh of Adam, the Rooh of Jesus and the Roohs of all people are all from Allah, and the rooh al Quddoos also combines with people and works through them when necessary. There is also the rooh of ibleess and the roohs of jinn which are able to combine with those of people and work through them if they are allowed in.
It is also a fact that there is a merging and relationship between the Rooh, the flesh, the mind, and the heart. And sometimes the words "rooh" and "nafs" are used alternatively.
Something weird happens during sleep and trance states where aspects of a fully conscious person are absent whilst others are present, and people's ears work to a certain extent and they answer questions (usually gibberish) and calm down when you try and tell them that it's ok and that they're dreaming and talking, or if you add to their dream story - they respond accordingly -sometimes with confusion - the mind appears to be in a not fully operating mode. Even yet - it is able to have a background effect on the person when their fully operating self boots back up. I often find myself very angry during the day when I have bad dreams, or in joker mode when I have silly dreams, or in serious mode when I have dreams concerning momentous events,
We are advised to lighty blow spit three times to the left if we see something we believe we should reject in order to cast it away.

All of the above indicates that there could also be a relationship between dna/genes and spiritual state. (Research alpha, beta, gamma theta etc) and notice how some families are naturally inclined to certain predispositions.

It also has a relationship with electricity which in turn has a relationship with the chemicals which our bodies produce and work with (research lead plate acid/alkanine battery charging if you want to know more). I know that for certain because I am affected by khannaas from amongst mankind - and the only refuge I have found is in the remembrance of Allah and in building a strong bond with the Muslim believers who have a strong bond with Allah, in order to overwhelm the attempted overwhelming of the waswas al khannaas min an-naas. Good sleep also helps, other than when I used to get drugged and have crappy sleep with an erratically beating heart throughout the day (research rambo chip if you want to know more).


So anyways, after all that speculation - none other than Allah has a decisive and complete answer on the true nature of the spirit, God's final amessenger and seal of prophets was simply told that God knows (with a tiny bit of incomplete information which he :saws: is reported to have narrated). We can observe though that there are certain head-starts and certain handicaps that we inherit at birth, and at the breathing in of the "soul/spirit" (however that's done), and that we work to advance or degenerate these throughout our lives until the spirit/soul is removed from our hardware. And that all handicaps and headstarts will be taken into full account during the complete and just judgement of allah on an individual basis.

Our duty is to submit to Allah, to obey Allah, and to establish His guidance in sincerity to please Allah, so that we can get the best of this world and al aakhirah.

Notice the event at 3 minutes forty seconds where information is written into the strand - and compare it with sahih Muslim on the breathing of the rooh.

Useful to ponder over although it also raises questuons of freewill qnd destiny, questions that will only be fully answered on or after yaum al ba'th - ba'd al maut..... so it's useful to ponder, whilst remebering the duty to strive our best in Allah's way within our capacities.

There was a doctor called duncan macdougall who made observations on people dying from what are generally regarded as "natural causes" and he found some weird changes in overall body mass before, during, after, and a few minutes after death.

The carefulness of the new york times reporter/editor choosing the headline also shows the apparent need to be careful of provoking the sensitive sensibilities of the materialist secularist priestly class.
We saw a similar method of rebuttal with regard to stan meyers and andrew wakefield - like something out of total recall.

There are clear indications in ahadith/seerah as to the varied mass/weight of spirits:


Zaid said, "Ibn-Maktum came to the Prophet while he was dictating to me that very Verse. On that Ibn Um Maktum said, "O Allah's Apostle! If I had power, I would surely take part in Jihad." He was a blind man. So Allah sent down revelation to His Apostle while his thigh was on mine and it became so heavy for me that I feared that my thigh would be broken. Then that state of the Prophet was over after Allah revealed "...except those who are disabled (by injury or are blind or lame etc.) (4.95)

Once a learned person from among the Jews said to Hazrat Umar R.A.: “In the Quran you people read a certain verse, if that verse had been revealed to us, we would have celebrated that day annually.”
Umar R.A. inquired: “which verse is that?”
He replied: “Al Yowma akmaltu lakum Deenakum.” (The verse under discussion)
Umar R.A. said “Verily I remember the day and the place where this verse was revealed (and apart from the revelation of this verse, which was on a Friday) it was already a double celebration for us. Firstly it was Friday-a day of celebration for all Muslims and secondly, it was the day of Arafat – a day of celebration for the pilgrims.
Umar R.A. further stated that this verse was revealed on a Friday after Asar on the day of Arafat while Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) was seated on his she-camel.
It is further stated in the Hadith that no further verses were revealed after this one with regard to Halaal and Haraam.

When this verse was revealed the Messenger of Allah :saws: was seated on his she-camel. The camel was forced to sit down because of the great weight descending upon it on account of the revelation. This is what normally happened.
Ayesha R.A. states that, when Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) was seated on a camel, the camel used to lower its neck being unable to lift it or move a step until revelation had ended.
Abdullah Ibn Umar R.A. relates from Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) that when revelation descended upon him he feared that he would lose his life. (Durre Mansoor)

Hazrat Zaid Ibn Thabit R.A. states that when the verse 95 in Surah 4 was being revealed I was sitting next to Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam). Rasulullah (Sallallaho Alaihi Wassallam) then became like one in a state of semi consciousness, and he put his high upon mine, the weight of which was so great that I felt that my leg would break.

In a Hadith 'Aisha (RA) says; ‘Verily I saw the Prophet being inspired Divinely on a very cold day and noticed the Sweat dropping from his forehead.’
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 2)

According to another narration; ‘The Prophet's face was red and he kept on breathing heavily for a while and then he was relieved …’

1- Allah says in the Qur'an;

“We are going to send down to you a weighty discourse.”

(Qur'an 73:5)


In Sahih Bukhari we have the statement of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) describing the phenomenon of revelation;

"Sometimes it is like the ringing of a bell, this form of Inspiration is the hardest of all and then this state passes ' off after I have retained what is inspired.”
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 2)

Thanks for you detailed replies brother.

So what you actually said is that ,we can't be sure whether our humans souls are meant by the verse :

or whether the ruh of revelation is meant .So there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the soul/ruh.

I am not learned in these matters but like you I share keen interest in these matters but still largely ignorant . .

I believe the nafs are a separate entity altogether. We are given intellect, we are given body, we are given life (to live in that body) and we are given nafs (I may have missed something out) and in this life, they all come together and will cause us to behave, think, etc in a plethora of ways.

That is what I have reasoned. . .
