Your post reminds me of a joke that explains one of the reasons why we pray.

A pilot from shoestring budget airlines is standing at the gates of heaven. St Peter said welcome, here is a silk robe and a gold staff.

The next person in the queue is a devout priest. St Peter said, welcome, here is a cotton robe and a wooden staff. The priest said, how come he gets a silk robe and a gold staff.

St Peter said we reward people accordingly, when he flew his plane his passengers prayed. When you preached, people fell asleep.
