Advice please..

Assalaamu Alaaykum

I wanted to know how would one deal with an individual who claims to know a lot about Islaam and talks about how bad the muslims are today and yet not even one thing do they practice of Islaam, what would one do?

I would personally advice that one should look at themselves first instead of the majority as its common sense that we are humans we do make mistakes,as it takes all our lives to fix ourselves and yet we are here talking about how the other is, yet it is up to the one who made the mistake to repent not up to the one who talks bad about them..Either way if they are really bad or not it is between them and Allaah swt as he is the judge..But is it not bad in advising them if not able to help them atleast make duaa..doing much as much as you are able to. maybe the fear of Allaah needs to be instilled into them.

I believe it is not wise to speak about something that does not concern you! Will our tongue not testify regarding the bad or good words we spoke? especially when we did nothing to help out.

Can someone please advice if there is something i lack..

i have seen too many such ppl. actually that the most easy way to got self satisfaction by critisizing others. sorry to say but i dont see any solution for this problem with them.

We should try our best to improve ourselves, follow Islam and even try to encourage other Muslims to do so. We should not say anything about them. Maybe they are just not aware of the beautiful things in Islam. If we really care for them, we should go to them and try to encourage them to practice Islam. Criticizing them will make no difference.

Yes, as i mentioned also that we should improve ourself instead of critisizing others. Sister I wasnt trying to critisie anyone i was speaking in general and i wanted to know how others would deal with such a situation. If you knew the person then i wouldnt speak about them using their name and what not since thats classed as backbiting. but if i need help regarding how to deal with someone then is for the sake of seeking advice and then taking the advice to help that someone insha'Allaah...where not mentioning their name..

No, sister I meant about that person whom you heard criticizing.

Here are some suggestions:

1. If that individual is someone close to you, such as a family member, then ask her if he/she has heard of the following hadith:

From Abu Hurairah (radiyallaahu 'anhu) who said that Allaah's Messenger said: From the perfection of a person's Islaam is that he leaves alone that which does not concern him. Reported by at-Tirmidhee (no.2318) and others

.

Since he/she claims to have a lot of knowledge of Islam, it is quite possible that he/she would acknowledge reading that hadith. Then, you ask him/her to explain it to you.....as though you really don't understand it.

It will then become clear as you talk about this hadith that other people's actions and sins fall in the category of things that we will not be held accountable for. In other words, it would fall in the category that is none of our concern.....and none of our business.

Then, if the person has begun to understand this part, then whenever he/she begins to criticize others for their bad deeds, you simply remind the person that this belongs to the category....that should be none of our concern or business.

Hopefully, the person will stop right there.

2. If the person is not a close person or relative, then you might want to use another strategy. You can try the above method if you like and see if it works. Just depends on how comfortable you feel talking to that person.

Asalaamu Alaikum, Many of us have so much to complain about when it comes to others or the state of our ummah but we neglect to look at ourselves and our own condition when it is us who needs to sort ourselves out. One should have concern over the state of the ummah and make dua and effort to bring brothers and sisters closer to deen but to sit their and complain all of the time is pointless and it says a lot about us when we do not try to improve our own condition.

Regarding your question I think it does dependa lot on who the person concerned is and our relationship with them. If it is an older person then they would be very difficult to change and if you said anything to them then they would probably get defensive but if it is a younger person then we can try and tell them in a gentle way using wisdom and tact that we must try to improve our own condition and rather than always complaining about the ummah and that we should have concern for our brothers and sisters rather than always finding bad things to say about them.

We should try to find ways of giving dawah to brothers and sisters for it is us as individuals who make up the ummah as a whole so anyone we can try and help then we are going a long way in helping that persons future generation.

Such a person who does not practise himself yet talks like he does and constantly complains about others is clearly shows one of the signs of nifaaq (hypocrisy) as in one who likes himself above all others to satisfy his ego. Such a person should be told to be more humble and be warned that they must not continue to act in such a way as it does not befit the way a Muslim behaves. A Muslim must never show himself to be better than others whilst they do not actually practise in the first place. This is worrying and such a person needs to fear Allah and stop acting in such a manner.

Such a person should be taught to be humble and be told about the importance of obeying the commands of Allah and praying Salaah. They must be taught that one is not even considered a Muslim who does not pray Salaah.

Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alaihu Wasallam) said: "What lies between a man and disbelief is the abandonment of prayer." (Muslim)
