For all those quick to criticise a well educated authority on Islam as if they know better than him, let me remind you that his post was supported by evidence from the sunnah, he didn't just start making up claims to please others, they are rooted in the hadiths. I highly doubt anyone here is going to accuse the hadith collectors from over a thousand years ago of trying to 'fit in' and change Islam to suit modern society. And as the link provided by SirZubair showed, even Imam Malik, of all people, rejected the hadiths in question. Would anyone here dare call him an apologetic??
Please, show some maturity and responsibly, our shaykhs receive enough slander from non-Muslim sources, lets not add to the hurt by slandering themselves ourselves when we are nothing but ignorant Muslims who are not qualified in Islam, and recognise that there are differences in opinion on lots of things, including authenticity of the hadith! It might not be the opinion you choose to follow, but you can't impose that view on others. Tolerance people!
