Just curious as to people's attitudes, feelings, general preparedness ...,
I was driving on the highway a couple of weeks ago and was involved with a very heavy conversation when we heard the sounds of car swerving and what seemed like a bomb in the left lane a three car accident which I believe caused one fatality .. It was so surreal a minute in the throes of life and the next death snatches someone a healthy someone instantly.. It's so much different than when you've time to adjust to someone's ailing state to just a casual thing an event seemingly as natural as going to the market or taking a shower!

I'm afraid of dying (dying in pain for example) and of leaving my loved ones grieving. Not of death itself though ...

First, I am blessed to be a muslim and it is an honor to be one. That decreases my fear of death dramatically, but I am still afraid. Its not the death itself that I am afraid of, but that I havent made my utmost effort to earn as much good deeds as I can and stay away from the bad deeds. The feeling of regret... is painful!

I am scared of dying in a state in which my heart is not sound. (قلبن سليم)

My initial thoughts upon reading the question are reflected by my brothers above. I am not afraid of the actual act of dying, or of leaving my earthly work unfinished, or leaving my family behind without my income, or that anyone would grieve over my death. I am afraid that I will not have lived my life as I should have, that I did not worship my Creator as He deserves to be worshipped, that I did not avoid the sins (known and unknown) that I commit daily, and that I was not as kind and merciful as I should have been to the people in my life. I anticipate being full of regret for some of the choices I have made, words I have said and deeds I have done. I fear that my innermost intentions were not as pure as I thought and that my heart, that is hidden from all except Allah (swt), is full of darkness instead of the light that was in the heart of prophets Muhammad, Ibrahim, Isa, Musa, Dawood, Yunus, and Nuh. I can only hope in the mercy of Allah (swt) and trust that He will forgive me of my shortcomings.

Don't learn Arabic from google translator and I don't recommend learning on the forum but sign up for classes if you're serious about it.
