ok den chi that is your opnion to which you are most certainly and definitely entitled to...i like bro iqrams in that it reminds me of someone i know...well the hair does lololol

i jus like the peaceful yet mysterious feelin my avatar gives, makes me think bout ALlah (swt)

Is it just me or have some people's signatures been replaced with warnings about using smileys to send messages and general inappropriate interaction with the other gender?
Yes, just after the Mods starting removing avatars and sigs with flags or people in them. Before that was deleting our ability to send a note with our approval/disapproval points, and before that monitoring private messages.

Next will be all smileys deleted for causing fitna, then warnings for not using :sl: :w: around every post, then all non-Muslims and those perceived to be insufficiently in agreement with the moderators will be removed to a separate section, the "dhimmi" board.

This board is, like, hyper micromanaged. It's irritating. Why have avatars if you can only use random patterns? Why selectively ban people's posts, delete others without notice or leaving behind a record that the posts were edited?

And for Heaven's sake, why was I punished with a "percentage warning" for making a pun about ahâdith about dogs and the name of Abu Hurayra ("Father of the Kitten")?

Who all else has percentage warnings anyway, and what for?

I'm currently at 20% - 15% for calling someone who referred to the prophet as a pædophile as a "troll", minus 5% for "good posting", then kicked out of the sister's room because I'm not a good enough Muslim, then 10% warning for the aforementioned joke about dogs and cats.

W00T! Plus I'm about to get in trouble for this post, so maybe this might be when I get banned.

*sigh* So much for interpersonal discourse. This board makes me sad.

Smileys can't be banned because they replace our voice and face. The entire mimicry its replaced by smileys.:)

salaam,

apart of being on LI is following the rules they set out for you. sometimes you have to be strict in not falling into any traps inshAllah.

and our sigs are here to inshAllah discourage ourselves from not doing something which may lead to fitnah.

wassalam :peace:

salam.

If so, then why give us the option of using them in the first place?

Personally, I almost never, ever use a smiley, but this whole campaign of smiley-smashing for "fitna"?

Yeek.

salam.
sis NahidSarvy lets just talk about Avatars and signitures before we get a warn.
w.salam

Right. I thought that people were just ripping of Iqram's signature all the time. And then the penny dropped.

Well I have my doubts about the editing of other people's posts which can be kind of annoying and makes threads hard to follow (I wodner if it also means that all the arguments are always won by Muslims?!), but really this is not such a bad place. For Muslim-run Islamic sites, I would have to say this is the best I know. You want to find intolerant moderators or really hyper micro-management you only have to look around.

And I am not just saying that because I don't want to get banned.

Who all else has percentage warnings anyway, and what for?

Hey, most places would just ban you. Some of them wouldn't even give you a warning first. I wouldn't have lasted as long elsewhere as I have here. Root would not last two days. And the only Sikhs I have ever seen on an Islamic forum are here.

So the rules for Avatars are: No human figures. A pity as I liked my Turkoman. Are they still allowing other animal shapes?

The rules for signatures don't seem to have changed. At least I have not noticed anyone's gone. On the other hand I have not seen any Transformers lately.

And there's no use of smileys for the other gender. I wonder, can I put a smiley on a reply to czgibson? Hmm, have to try that and see if I get a warning.

I would like a clarification of what sort of PM-ing is acceptable.

Anyway, I have tried to look but I can't find a place where these rules are announced. Does anyone know of a spot on the Forum? Any Moderator?

salaam,

^^^ to Heigous point about smilies...it hasnt been banned and i doubt they will be. therefore you wont get any warnings regarding them....

however we are just trying to make people aware that sometimes innoocent intentions can be taken another way to someone else. like smilies for example...

wassalam :peace:

:sl: and Greetings,

This board makes me sad.
Yet you still sign on and post regularly?
i know what you mean me got 40% for going off topic , come on why is it so like strickt!
Because you constantly do it. And yes, you will be handed a warning if you complain in public.
I would like a clarification of what sort of PM-ing is acceptable.
As long as you're not socialising with the opposite gender, it's fine.

Right. I thought that people were just ripping of Iqram's signature all the time. And then the penny dropped.
Seen mine? Class! :p

That word, though magic, makes me sad.

I like Root a lot. He's cool. Even though I don't agree with his atheistic worldview, that doesn't diminish him in my eyes as a person. The Sikhs here tend to be cool too, unless a Muslim member does something silly like, say, provoking them.

So the rules for Avatars are: No human figures. A pity as I liked my Turkoman. Are they still allowing other animal shapes?
Yep. Again, O Naysayers, take a look at my avatar/sig combo and say that LI stifles self-expression.

The rules for signatures don't seem to have changed. At least I have not noticed anyone's gone. On the other hand I have not seen any Transformers lately.
Still not allowed flags or pics of humans in sigs.

And there's no use of smileys for the other gender. I wonder, can I put a smiley on a reply to czgibson? Hmm, have to try that and see if I get a warning.
No need to be faceitous :p Besides, Czgibson's male.

Unless you're actually female.

In which case I'm either stoned or confused. I hope it's the latter.

I would like a clarification of what sort of PM-ing is acceptable.
Ask one of the higher-ups such as Ansar, since he always gives the best, most accurate answers. And no, that's not a pun.

Anyway, I have tried to look but I can't find a place where these rules are announced. Does anyone know of a spot on the Forum? Any Moderator?
'22. Avatars and signatures may not contain images of people'

Feel free to flame the mods now, naysayers. :)

True Sis.

It's not from the forum rules that we cannot use smilies towards the other gender peoples, Of course, if it was against the forum rules then the smilies would not be there would they, but it's just that sometimes they are misused is all. So a few of the sisters decided to put this little warning in our signature just to serve as a reminder towards our fellow brothers and sisters.

Yes it's true it's only a little face, as I myself previously thought, but apparently these 'little faces' can cause an individual to take something the wrong way, especially when being addressed towards the opposite sex. Pathetic you might say, and yes it may be pathetic, but sadly it's true. We may perceive it a different way, but the person being addressed may think a whole different thing. So all we are doing is just serving out a little reminder for those who wish to follow. And it's only an Islamic duty to let others know of whether there can be fitnah or not.

salaam,

mashAllah ^^^^ you said it way better sis.
so inshAllah you can now understand our sigs, and not just dis it.

wassalam :peace:
