Whoever asks Allah for something of the dunya, let him precede it with seeking Allah’s forgiveness and repentance, for sins prevent acceptance or delay it. Sulaymān sought forgiveness of his Lord before he asked for a kingdom:

“My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom.” [Ṣād 38:35]
