whereas hell is downhill.

The believer has good expectation of his Lord, so he makes his deeds good. But, the evil person has bad expectation of his Lord, so he does evil. - Hasan al-Basri

"It is strange that a person may find it easy to protect himself from eating Haraam, oppression and injustice, adultery, theft, drinking Khamr, and from unlawful looking, but it is hard for him to restrain the movement of his tongue. How often do we see people who are very cautious about falling into shameful deeds or injustice, but their tongue lashes against the living and the dead and they don't mind it?"

Greetings and peace be with you all, the following was in our church newsletter this week....

We must always be open to God’s love no matter where we find it. St. Thomas Aquinas said,
“If it is true then it is from the Holy Spirit.” In the thirteenth century, when Christians demonised
Muslims even more than they do today St. Francis told his friars that if they found a page of the Koran
that led them to love God they should kiss it and place it on the altar. I pray that wherever you find or
discover the love of God let your conscience be at rest.

[Hasan Al-Basri ((may Allâh have mercy on him)] said, "The heart becomes corrupt in six ways:

► committing sins in the hope of repenting,

► seeking knowledge and not applying it,

► practice without ikhlas [i.e. sincerity],

► eating the sustenance of Allah without
appreciating Him,

► not being pleased with Allah's decree and

► burying the dead without learning from them."

  • Arabic Proverb: “Allaah sometimes takes us into troubled waters - Not to drown us, but to cleanse us.”

Prayer is also a workout for the soul. It’s a chance to let out your inner feelings to the Hearer and Responder. Every complaint, every desire, every worry, every hope, every anguish, every emotion – this is the time to let it all out. Let those tears flow. Let it come from the heart. Stand up in the depths of night and converse with your Lord Who will listen and respond to you – simply express to Him what you feel.
