Assalamualikum,
Based upon some ayats we are commanded to approach praying under a state of mind which is clear and focused. Besides, being in a drunkard state are there any other exceptions by which the prayer must be avoided?. For instance a person who is sleepy, dizzy or at times mentally confused?
I have not drank alcohol in it's purest forms and hence really unsure the effects upon my mind and body. Having had nothing to compare this with, left wondering about the medication I'm presently taking for the flu and the effects upon my mental awareness. Usually, leaves me very drowsy after intake. One is a cough medication syrup and the others are in the form of tablets. I wake up sometimes unsure if having prayed or not or knowing I had but feeling as though it has been lacking i.e not the usual effects gained from having prayed in a normal state of well-being..... Do I have to re-do my prayer at those times?
Also tend to sometimes only perform the Fard salaats because of my dizzy state. So, do I stop (altogether because of a befuddled mind) and wait until better and then re-do all those missed. Or pray as best as I could at these times and still re-do my prayers to make sure?
"O you who believe! do not go near prayer when you are Intoxicated until you know (well) what you say"
(Surah Nisa 4:43)
