Being a convert in a family of non-muslims (help available here)

It is a sad fact that some who embrace Islam will find themselves shunned by both friends and family and often find themselves shut off from social and family. It is the same thing for some Christians who go from one denomination to another. I know of many Catholic converts who are disowned by their Protestant family and friends. If I convert to Islam I will loose my family, friends, I will have to divorce my husband and loose my son. The only loss I do not think I can handle is my son . I am still praying and discerning and whatever God calls me to do I will do no matter what it cost me.

I'm the only muslim in my family. They are all Christan.
I told them though a letter as it was the only way to tell them how I felt and what I belived in. They were even more shocked as I started to wear the hijab so after I converted. It was very uncomfortable when I saw my family.
Over a year on, they are alright with me being muslim and wearing the hijab. They understand my faith now and are happy that I've found something that I'm happy with.

but wanted to ask anyone for advice on any books which would be useful to give to a non-muslim friend of mine. she has been diagniosed with terminal cancer and would like to give her some material to raed.
