Sister, there is a verse in the Quran which describes the scenario you gave:

Chapter Name:An-Nisa Verse No:97

Assalamu alaykum brother abz2000.

The Qur'an has many verses and they refer to differing situations.

It all depends of your circumstances. Judgment on earth isn't final since man is on a journey of changing fortunes.

Each man and woman faces differing trials. Some are tested with hardships... some with prosperity. But all are tested nevertheless. We can't judge people by the same yardstick since each and every person comes with a differing levels of understanding and faith.

Factors that affect a person's actions are many. For example:

1. Upbringing.
2. Social environment.
3. Circumstances (whether you are living in times of war or peace...)
4. Level of knowledge and understanding of Islam.
5. Level of faith.
6. Individual faults and weaknesses. (e.g. you may be good at avoiding alcohol, but not good at cleanliness or keeping your promises. Or you might do your prayers on time but you do not obey your mother and cause her pain...)
7. Things that are done in secrecy.... whether they are good or bad.
8. Feelings of remorse over past actions.
9. Complacency and self-satisfaction over one's deeds..
10. Desire or the lack of desire to be a better person....

etc. etc. etc.

People are like icebergs. What you see is only 10%. The 90% is submerged beneath the ice.

Verses of the Qur'an that you might apply to one person may not apply to another....

true sis,
but i hate being pulled to go astray and them trying to force their decadent ways on me - while they talk of freedom to be immoral in Muslim countries,
and i don't claim to be strong and that i can face any test.
going astray and messing up is a humiliation, (asfala-saafileen) as humans are guided towards the heights,
while satan wants to make us believe we are animals born from animals - therefore it is ok to act like animals.
and a believer should not allow himself to be humiliated.
the believers were honoured with Islam, and then the whole of the Arabs were honoured when Islam spread, and that was due to the fact that believers got together and separated themselves from antisocial elements, built a model society and asserted themselves rather than re-adapt, and people saw strength, determination and light.
yes, we are seeing people come to Islam in trickles, but we are also heedless of the fact that the boat itself is sinking.
