Day and night, we are witnesses to the current state of affairs the Ummah is going through. We see the oppressions, the wars, the famines, the sufferings, the humiliations. We look at our selves, our lack of and inability to influence any change in the world, we take all that in as witnesses, and when our hearts can't the right words to express our feelings, our eyes respond and tears run down our cheeks.
We deal with these realities in different ways. For the most of us, we don't really know what to do, what we can do, the problems seem too great and our arms seem so short. Others channel their built up energy and aggression on others, at those who are behind and causing all these sufferings and at those who have the power to change things and aren't.
I'm no more knowledgeable than any of you, and I don't claim to know the answers or hold the keys to our victory. I have given some time, reflecting on this and would like to share with you my conclusion and how i think we should try and respond to the current state we are in.
Allah(sw) says in the Qur'an;
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ
Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.
(Ar-Ra'd - verse 11)
Since the Ummah is made of individuals, then our collective change will only come when we change at the individual level first. So let us all if we truly believe in Allah(swt), and that His word is Haqq, let us heed the lesson in this great verse and begin changing ourselves for the better - if we want the Ummah to change for the better.
If you want Change for the Ummah - Change yourself.
If you want Success for the Ummah - Be Successful.
If you want Strength for the Umah - Be Strong.
If you want Honor for the Ummahh - Be Honorable.
If you want Happiness for the Ummah - Be Happy.
If you want Wealth for the Ummah - Be Wealthy.
If you want Health for the Ummah - Be Healthy.
If you want Wisdom for the Ummah - Be Wise.
Allah(swt) says in the Noble Qur'an;
وَمَا أَصَابَكُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُو عَن كَثِيرٍ
And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned; but He pardons much.
(Ash-Shura: verse 30)
And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned; but He pardons much.
(Ash-Shura: verse 30)
You see my dear brothers and sisters, to Allah(swt) it is of least importance whether we are Palestinians, or Egyptians, Malay or Pakistani, Malian or Americans, Allah(swt) doesn't see nor does He recognize those straight-line borders that the colonialist who thought they were gods drew in the sands, to Allah we are either Believers or Non-Believers. It is of little importance if you who is living in the farthest islands in Indonesia or in Gaza, if you sin against Allah, Allah(swt) will holds us all accountable as believers. Thus it is for our sins that our brothers and sisters are suffering all around the globe, it is for our sins that our brothers are going through Famine after famine, oppression after oppression.
So do you want to give your brothers and sisters in Gaza victory?
Do you want Allah(swt) to shower rain over your brothern in Somalia?
Then let us return to Allah(swt) with sincere repentance, let us all seek forgiveness from Lord, the One who pardons much. Let us improve ourselves so that the ummah improves. We'll make mistakes, we'll sin, we'll forget, let us follow our sins with sincere Tawbah and seek Allah's pardon for our Sins. The power and rewards of Istighfar are immeasurable.
So when you wake up early in the morning in the middle of winter, make wudu and pray fajr - It is not a victory for you alone, it is a Victory for the whole Ummah.
When you sister, start wearing Hijab - it is not a victory for you alone, it is a Victory for the whole Ummah.
When you brother stop smoking - it is not victory for you alone, it is a Victory for the whole Ummah.
When you utilize the opportunities and resources that are available to you, and not available to your brothern in Gaza, in a manner that pleases Allah and better yourself though it - that is not a victory for you alone, it is a victory for the whole Ummah.
When you turn off the t.v. and study for your exam - that is not a victory for you alone, it is a Victory for the whole Ummah.
When you read a book, learn a new skill, develop a new good habit, leave a bad habit, get to work on time, get an A in calculus, start exercising, lose extra weight, start a healthy diet, organize your tasks, manage your time, whenever you do something that benefits you or leave something that doesn't benefit you - you have done something that benefits the Ummah and left something that Harms the Ummah.
So a Better Ummah - Begins with a Better YOU!
Let us utilize the power of Intention and please Allah(swt) with everything we do, seeking his mercy and favors, not only for ourselves but for the Ummah and the World.
Allah has promised, to those among you who believe and work righteous deeds, that He will, of a surety, grant them in the land, inheritance (of power), as He granted it to those before them; that He will establish in authority their religion - the one which He has chosen for them; and that He will change (their state), after the fear in which they (lived), to one of security and peace: ´They will worship Me (alone) and not associate aught with Me. ´If any do reject Faith after this, they are rebellious and wicked.
(An-Noor: verse 55)
Your Success is My Success, I wish for you all success in this life and the ultimate success in the next.
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
