Re: reversion help, finally some people to talk to!

I think they do think I'm being indoctrinated or brainwashed.
I'm sure they do!
I think the only thing you can do, is demonstrate to them that you can follow your religion, but still be yourself and think for yourself. Show that you are thinking about your faith, and not just 'blindly' following it.

The thing is that with Islam, I must say my shahadah, because if I die without saying it I'm in trouble.
I know that's what Islam teaches, but as a Christian I find that perception very difficult.
Surely God knows your heart, and also knows the difficult situation you are in! God also tells you to be obedient and respectful to you parents!
You should come to your faith and to God with love and joy, not because you feel under pressure to do so.

I know there are some things which we must just accept through faith, but atheists don't think that faith is a good reason, and will just badmouth your faith if you tell them that.
Yes, by definition many atheists find the concept of God amusing at best, and disturbing or dangerous at worst.
I have said this before, you will probably have to grow a tougher skin and expect a certain amount of ridicule or even open criticism and attack.

I wish you peace and strength, Fishman. Some of the stuff you are going through, I have gone through myself!

Take care. :)

Re: reversion help, finally some people to talk to!

I found out that there used to be a system to allow Muslims to pray at school, but when people started taking advantage of it and using it to skip lessons, they stopped it. There's now nowhere to pray.

At least I'm not becoming a scientologist! My mum said she would definitely say no to crazy stuff like that. Mind you, I would as well!
I think they do think I'm being indoctrinated or brainwashed.

The thing is that with Islam, I must say my shahadah, because if I die without saying it I'm in trouble. Islam doesn't view humans as the children of God (although Allah is kind to the righteous), it views humans as the slaves of God. I find that this way of thinking makes more sense, because it explains the existance of Hell, and why Allah punishes wrongdoers. It also means that the purpose of a Muslim's life is to completely submit to Allah and serve him, and if he/she doesn't, they won't get as good an afterlife as they wish. I find it very hard to leave my Shahadah until I'm sixteen.

I know there are some things which we must just accept through faith, but atheists don't think that faith is a good reason, and will just badmouth your fiath if you tell them that.
There are a number of things in Islam which Muslims believe in through their faith that the Quran is true, such as the Jinn. Whilst there are a number of unexplainable ghost sightings and other very questionable evidences, most believe in them only because they believe the Quran is a true revelation.
:w:

Asalamu alaikum,

I have the same problem with my parents, the whole 'brainwashed' thing but I think they are slowly coming round (inshaAllah).

I would suggest that you take your shahadah now, maybe not too publicly, just with a friend in school or something, it doesn't have to be this big thing with tons of people or anything, I think you just need someone else to witness you saying it. In your heart I think you are Muslim already and you already believe in what the shahadah says so I don't see what difference it will make.

I know you don't want to go against your parents, Islam teaches us to respect our parents, but if they are trying to make you do something that is not in compliance with Islam then it is okay to go against them if its unavoidable, which I think in this case it is.

Taking your shahadah doesn't mean you have to rush into practising, i.e. praying five times a day etc. but I think it should spur you on somewhat. However, you should take things at your own pace, take your time because if you do too much you'll be put off and you may feel like giving up what you have achieved. Take it slowly, its better than going too fast.

I hope this helps.

May Allah forgive me if I have said anything bad or untrue, and may Allah guide you to the right decision, ameen.

Salam, LJ

Re: reversion help, finally some people to talk to!

Masha Allah! I am really happy for you.
you will retain the blessings for all good deeds you performed before reversion to Al-Islam! Yet you are forgiven for your past sins upon embracing Islam! Masha'Allah!

The Noble Qur'an - Al-Anfal 8:38

"Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease (from disbelief) their past will be forgiven. But if they return (thereto), then the examples of those (punished) before them have already preceded (as a warning). "

Just keep your faith strong..I am sure u will make it.[BANANA][/BANANA]

All the times I've tried to do wudu I've either had to take most of my clothes off or get them all wet. Am I supposed to wash my lower legs? And I find cleaning my nose out with water painful, prehaps something to do with having polyps up there.

There are no towels in school. How do I dry my feet after washing them?

:w:
Brother, just roll your sleeves a little bit above your elbows and roll your pants above your ankles - make sure both are in a firm position and wont roll back down. It is natural for your clothes to get a teeny bit wet - not drenched. When you make wudu - try to keep the water flowing at a slower rate - that may save water and not get you so wet. Slowly wash your parts - keeping care that you dont drench your clothes.
About washing your lower legs - you just have to wash your feet including the ankles. You might want to take a small hand towel with you from home and put it in your bag/locker. Once your've washed one foot you can dry it, then wash the other one and dry it. That might be better than having to put your towel onto the filthy bathroom floor at school and washing both feet then drying them. You could buy paper towels and keep them with you - but that might get rather expensive.
About washing your nose - dont stab yourself up your nose with your fingers...you can use your fingers very slowly and gently and quickly... in-out. Sorry - I dont really know much about polyps so I cannot advise your properly about this.

Take care brother. May Allah reward you for yoru effort.
Peace

Re: reversion help, finally some people to talk to!

If Allah prohibits something, there's always a good reason for it, right? And you can't just say to an atheist 'I do it because God told me to', because they will tell you that it's completely illogical. If you give them a good scientific reason, they will either accept that reason, or not understand it (which happens quite a lot when talking about pictures and music).
I know dog saliva can give you cysts the size of grapefuits anyway. If I get the chance, I will, Insha'Allaah, test dog and cat hair and saliva to prove that dogs are unclean.

:sl:
brother fishman! nice to see you again :thankyou: ..just want to tell you the position of the Maliki school is that “spittle/saliva of all living animals is pure (even if it is from a dog or a pig). The entire living animal itself is also pure (even if it is a pig or a dog).” in the others three Schools of thought.. dog's saliva is unclean but its hair and skin isnt..

inshallah brother take a small hand towel with you..it can fit in your bag..or you can use toilet paper..when doing ablution (wudho) also remember we're not to leave the tap running and we have to use as little water as possible..purify yourself but dont waste the water ....lastly about the music issue..theres difference of opinion among the scholars..people can post as many threads on this site as possible saying its haraam..yet the fact remains a minority of scholars have always permitted it ..taraa :)

If you can get cysts the size of grapefruits from it, I wouldn't like to touch dog saliva anyway.

Eh? What happened here?
:w:
Hi Fishman

I think AvarAllahNoor asked what happens when a Muslim wants to convert to another religion.

I assume that the moderators have removed the post and linked it to another thread, so your thread wouldn't be taken off topic.

How are you, anyway? How was your day?

peace.

Insha'Allaah I'm going to the classes that my friend at school goes to. The classes are run by an American scholar, who's supposed to be really good. My friend also said that if I don't mind, they will try to get me an Arabic name (not a proper name change, just something for Muslims to call me by)! He says that his teacher can teach me how to pray and do wudu properly, and Insha'Allah I'll be able to say shahadah there!

Re: reversion help, finally some people to talk to!

Will you choose your own name? What do you have in mind?

I'm not sure, might chose Abdullah, as I read somewhere that this is one of the two best male names.

It's largely ok if I avoid talking about religion.

Give your parents time, and let the news sink in!
God is patient. Are you?

Peace. :thankyou:

I went to a Mosque in Sneinton today, to go to those classes I was talking about before. It was great, and, insha'Allaah, I will go there every Monday.
