Asalamu Alaykum,

Well it's time to start paying for the school prom and I don't really want to go but all my friends ( a lot of muslims) are telling me to come as its my last year and it will be fun etc.. In my heart i feel its wrong to go islamically and i don't want to do anything against my religion but i was just wondering is it wrong? Thanks:statisfie

Don't go. It's useless - you see the exact same people that you would normally at school, only this time there's alcohol and dancing on the premises. Take up martial arts instead.

:sl:

Back in year 11 i did go:(, Nd i got to be honest, like aamirsaab said its boring! We done it in the marriot hotel. The only thing i liked was the food :D

The rest was soo boring, soo my advice is with that money go to a very nice restaurant with ur friends, nd u will have a much better time!

:sl:

quick question

i dnt wana go but in in student Government assciation n they are "making" us by the ticket and go

i havnt talked to the coordinator yet but wut do you think?

:w:

They've been trying to get me to go for months, but I refuse! One or two Muslims are going and the rest not. I have friends who are non-Muslim and don't drink (atheists, not super-believing Christians as you might think at first!) and they ain't goin', so I wouldn't have anyone to hang around with. I've tried it with those that drink, it didn't work out, haha. I also have to work and earn a livin', no time.

It's up to you, though I'd say no.

prom = music + dancing

hmm very unislamic

when i was in school my friends all asked me to go too, called up the day before everything. i didnt go and heck i was HAPPY i didnt, i saw the video they done and... :uuh:

anyway, inshaAllah you make the right choice

Same, my friends were texting me like "all my friends were their but you..", which made me feel quite bad. Till I saw the photos of the event, which was pretty much a clubbing scene!

That's why I'm glad I went to a girls school.

We had a 'Gala' instead which is everything you have in a prom without the lads, but still had music and dancing, which I couldn't care less about at the time tbh.

But proms for a Muslimah, don't go please!

Have an anti prom! Get together with your muslim friends and do something special AND halal on the night of your school prom. :)

^ ;D It's like those un-popular kids at school aren't invited or something, they do an anti-thing. Stoopid movies. ;D

Lol, it's the exact opposite!... we muslims are too cool for regular prom.

you answered your own question

I wasn't muslim in high school, and only went to prom my senior year. Big waste of time and money. I agree with the poster who said to organize and anti prom. Do something more halal, hang with friends, go bowling, go out to dinner, something, anything that doesn't compromise your deen.

lol u could do better stuff with ur money instead of wasting it on a school prom.

Agreed with all of the comments here.

What you do in your leisure time is up to you but this seems like a waste of time in my opinion. Why? Because of the atmosphere etc. Islam doesnt frown down upon socialising, No. Just try to do it in a halal way insha'Allah :) like getting all yer fish together for a partayy :D

Thanks everyone...Even if i was allowed in islam i still really wouldn't want to go but i feel so pressured to go...the funny (ok not so funny as sad) thing is this pressure is mainly from my muslim friends and not the non-muslims. I don't think they would miss it but I will suggest it to them that we go out instead if they do good we can have fun if not im sure I can spend my time more productively...Thank you for all your comments...I have not idea how i'm going to tell me teacher im not coming though he might get angry.

^ if he gets angry stuff a sock in his mouth

i'll get angry if he gets angry

his not allowed to get angry !!
