Hadith On Easy actions and great rewards:
Abu Mas’ud Al-Badri, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said:” Anyone who recites the two verses at the end of surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him.” A Sound Hadith Realted by Al-Bukhari and Muslim
More than First Class
All of us love to receive mail whether through the internet or at home. However, our excitement tends to follow the type of mail and size of the package. Of course, the best type of mail is first class hand delivered. However, in order to gain a greater appreciation for these last two verses think about the following hadith.
‘Ibn Abbas said, “While Jibril (alayhis Assalamualikum) was sitting with the Prophet, he heard a sound above him and raised his head. He said, ‘This is a door of heaven which has been opened today and which has never been opened before today. An angel descended from it.’ He said, ‘This is an angel who has descended to earth who has never descended before today.’ He gave the greeting and said, ‘Give the good news of two lights which you have been given and which no Prophet before you was given: the Fatiha of the Book and the end of Surah al-Baqarah (2). You will not recite a letter of them without being given it.’” A Sound Hadith related by Muslim
Can you believe it! Allah (swt) did not send these last two verses to the Prophet (sa) through Jibril (as). No! He sent them through a special angel. In addition, the angel said, “I give you good news.” Thus, every time you read these two blessed verses you’re sharing in this happiness and good news with the Prophet (sa). Finally, he said, “Two lights.” Thus, these two verses are a light from Allah (swt). And what type of person would fail to capitalize on a light given to him/her by Allah
Let’s Drink from the Prophet’s Wisdom
The scholars have differed over the Prophetic statement, “It will be sufficient.” Here’s a small glimpse at how many of them understood the term
-It means, it these two verses are written, then it will be as if the reader of these two verses prayed the night prayer with the entire Qur’an!
-The reading of these two verses will protect him/her from evil and disliked things.
-He/She will be considered from those who did not neglect the Qur’an!
-They, by Allah’s will alone, will protect the reader from Shaytan’s plans.
-The recitation of these two verses will bring so much reward that it will be sufficient for them.
Mash Allah! What an amazing opportunity has fallen in front of us! Ya Allah! How Allah as truly blessed us and favored us to be Muslims! There is no doubt that we are all so busy with work, school, and family and during those hectic times we find worshiping in the night to be of great difficulty. However, if right before we close our eyes to sleep, we read the last two verse of Surah Al-Baqarah, we’ll gain so much. Look how Allah made worshiping and drawing near to Him so easy. Imagine how much time we spend doing other things which are much more difficult and labor intensive then this? Let’s take the opportunity to learn these verses so we can get closer to our Lord.
Ali (ra) said, “I could never suppose that one that has any intellect or firm grasp of Islam could sleep before reading these two verses.”
