Capitalism- Rest in Pieces

It seemed appealing
Studying business and economy
And then getting a job in the city
Making money
Playing with others life savings

Life is a gamble
And many risks
As I played the markets
Using fool proof policies
This was the norm in the city

Borrowed heavily
Using others money
Fractional reserve banking
Was the term
Sounded so respectable and honest

The boom continued
And it seemed Gordon Brown was right
Boom and bust was a thing of the past
My clients were happy
And so were my bosses

The cash rolled in
And my lifestyle became extravagant
I was on a high and not just from the cocaine
Seemed I could do no wrong

Some prophets of doom warned
Of things to go down
As they had in history
An apocalyptic vision

We laughed and joked about these killjoys
As we played and treated money like a toy
It was better than monopoly
As investments and returns increased

We saw the rising prices
In third world countries
As the poverty increased
And we blamed them
For bad policies and corrupt leaders

Then suddenly
Out of the blue
The signs became visible
That all was not well
As the housing market in America tumbled
As the sub prime market exploded

Governments intervened
And destroyed the myth of the free market
And Laissez-faire economics
More like Socialism
Without the name

Many in shock
And some jumping literally
But only a few thinking
About other economic alternatives

Where the market is free
But with rules
To protect the investors
Currency backed up with gold
And absence of interest
Sales of tangible goods
And not things on a computer screen

good rhyme:), you have talent.

on the other hand I don't think capitalism is that weak to RIP anytime soon.
it has many inherent strengths, and there are no stronger challenging systems. I know, the Islamic one, but that isn't truly Islamic in most cases, rather simply the usual interest infested one wearing hijab. add to that, it isn't a system to begin with like capitalism, rather some dabbling in banks. granted banks are the forefront of financial systems, but they are only a part of it.

BarakAllah feek for your kind words. The recent events has shown the weaknesses of Capitalism which its advocates failed to predict or see coming.

Now what they are trying to do is patch up and minimise the damage already done, but it will take time to fix and create another bubble which will continue to grow and eventually burst as it has done over the centuries.

Now is the time for Muslims who believe firmly in the Islamic model of governance to highlight and show how the Islamic economic system can prevent such a crisis from happening in the first instance.

I found these websites most useful http://www.financial-crisis.eu and http://www.newcivilisation.com

Masha'Allah... you have a great talent...

It's so true. Excellent job! :)

I dont see now other system better than capitalism.

Many people have grown up thinking and seeing only two systems, Capitalism and Communism. Very few non-Muslims are aware that Islam has a system which can solve problems, and used to do so in the past.

Nightstar and Hanz, jazakAllah for your kind words and support.
