Oh its not easy to quit i tried many times and failed even used nicotine patches and gums. What a waste of money . After using nicotine patches or gums i realised that the strong will is the only key for quitting . Also the social life your living can effect the process . And the low price of cigarettes its like 1$ for a pack of cigs Here in leb and its allowed to smoke anywhere .
By the way after a week of quitting i started to feel better or started to slightly forget about smoking but whats more addictive is the psychological dependence on cigarettes and here comes the toughest part cos you will always see someone smoking infront of you even if you sit in a cafe while drinking your coffee cos smokers enjoys smoking while drinking coffee ,reading the news paper watching a movie driving your car .... Anything you can imagine will trigger the urge for a cig
And really non smokers doesn't know how it feels like its really really really not easy to quit.
being a former smoker, i DO know what it's like. the cigarette is more of a "habit" than you know. store bought cigarettes contain chemicals the DO make you addicted. cigarettes are actually placed in movies and advertisements to make them look more "appealing," add all of those situations that you mentioned and it becomes a nightmare that is near impossible to avoid.
i quit smoking in the past by taking myself off of "store bought" cigs. i imported pure tobacco from Virginia and made my own. you can use a simple Rizla machine or a "tube" variety. you can do them with or without filters and menthol or non-menthol. it is best if you can "make them to order." this does 2 things: 1) it gets you away from the nasty chemicals in store bought and 2) it breaks you of the habit of "wanting" and butt, just because you see one. you'd be surprised at how many smokes a day you have just because you look at your pack and you know that you can just pop one out and light it up. next work on your "habit" cigarettes, the "i just woke up and i want one butt", the "i just left the house butt," the "just got the car going butt" the "hey, there's my buddy, let's have a smoke" butt, the "i just finished eating smoke" and the 2 hardest, the coffee and cig smoke [and the drink and smoke combo]. those are the hardest.
you should also remove yourself from the situations where you would smoke out of habit instead of because you really want one, like sitting in the cafe.
when you DO want a cigarette, try smelling someone's smoke instead of "lighting up." they DO stink, you just can't smell them when you are the one doing the smoking.
i actually started up again after not smoking for 13 years. Alhumdulillah, i quit again but it was a miracle from Allah, so i can't really take the credit this time.
try to remember that smoking is haraam. don't lie to Allah! acknowlegde that smoking is haraam and ask Allah to strengthen you so that you can quit. always try to smoke less and try to realize the "situation" smokes. only smoke when you REALLY want one and ask Allah to make those times less and less.
may Allah make it easy on you and may He assist you in your effort.! AMMEEN!:wa:
