As-Salamu Alaykum brothers and sister,

I am a born and raised catholic. I am no longer practicing and am seriously considering Islam. Like most who have converted from catholicism I don't agree to the status that Mary the mother of Jesus has been raised to. Also, the fact that a lot of explanations aren't given but we were expected to simply accept things because thats just how things are done.

I never questioned the trinity or Jesus being the son of God. As I started researching Islam things became clear to me that I may have been wrong and am starting to accept the fact that it was my fault for not asking more questions. I really feel I am on the right path now and will appreciate all encouragement and advice that you will share with me.

Wa alaikum salaam

Walekum as salaam wa rehmatullahi wa barakatuhu

Welcome to the forum. It's so good to hear that you're inclining towards Islam, MashAllah. Post your queries in the relevant sections, and inshAllah they will be answered well by someone on the forum. Hope to hear your conversion story soon inshAllah.

Welcome to the forum, brother.

My advice for you right now is just to realize that not all Muslims are perfect and practicing but you can do yourself a huge favor by arming yourself with proper knowledge of the religion to avoid future frustrations with people and their baseless opinions. Keep searching and learning and be sure to ask many questions on this forum as I was in the same place as you 1 year ago and the members helped clear up many of my concerns.

Welcome to the forum 1Searching.

I'd be happy to have another Muslim brother. I hope you find Islam to be the true path to God and all the best with everything.

Aprender thank you. My biggest concer will be how my friends and family will react. I know it will be out of not know what Islam teaches and what the media says. I will do my best to enlighten them. I know lots of them will ask why I would turn my back on Jesus and I will have to teach them how muslims feel about Jesus, peace be upon him.

I understand that no muslim is perfect. I was watching a lecture by Dr. Zakir Naik and he was explaining how not to judge all muslims by the terrorists who use islam as an excuse or shield for there actions. That we should look to the prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him, for he is the perfect muslim and follow his examples.

I am currently starting at the beginning. Since I never read the Bible all the way through I started reading it. I will go back and forth between it and the Qur'an. I am also going to meet with the Imam of my local mosque. I'm also going to try and meet with a priest at a catholic church. I want to give both sides a chance. I will ask as many questions as I can and keep reading.

Persaveranze thats a great video. I'll look at more of them. Thanks

Wa'alaikumsalam.

Welcome here dear brother. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask or even use the forum search button. But i would advise you to tae your knowledge from a teacher directly. That would be best in my opinion.

May Allah make it easy on you insyaAllah

Welcome to the forum bro.. may you be blessed with knowledge and humility which will guide you in your quest to find the truth from your Lord..

Great start. I did this too by reading the Bible again. Then I ventured to read the different versions of the Bible for comparison. I made sure to also to speak with knowledgeable Christians to answer my questions about Christianity too and once it got down to it I was disappointed with the "You just have to have faith" answers and then I started to study Islam to see what it taught .

It was scary when I told my parents and friends I was becoming a Muslim too but I was going through an insanely rough time in my life and was sick of people telling me who I should be, what I should believe in and how to live my life. I came out, hijab and all and they just had to deal with it. Difference is that none of them asked me any questions about Islam and just accepted my decision even though they said it was the wrong decision. I did get some harsh remarks from family members and lost a few friends. I admit at times I feel alone. Especially during Ramadan. I suppose that's partially my fault though but I wouldn't trade it for the clarity and sense of peace I feel from being apart of this religion.

I'm glad that you understand that no Muslim is perfect. I think some people have this idea that switching religions means that the people will somehow be better and flawless but humans are humans. It's important not to become a Muslim for the sake of the people but because you believe in Allah and His final messenger. Had I become a Muslim for other people I would have certainly left Islam 36 hours after taking my shahada. Other Muslims will let you down. Allah (swt) never disappoints.

How much of my life do I have to change? Not drinking and gambling aren't an issue. I am going to miss carnitas tacos though but I know its a small price to pay. Forgive my ignorance but I love football and video games and the like. So what do I have to cut out?

Lol I wish I'd Learn of Just one guy who wasn't into video games or football or its eastern equivalent soccer ... Gahhhh

that is my sports! :omg:

for the OP; anything by this "guy", Mufti Ismail Menk of Zimbabwe:

or this one, Dr Bilal Philips, it's all free:

this guy rock too, Dr Bashar Shala, his Seerah is a good place to begin to understand Islam:

older:

stories from the Qur'an:

especially these 4:

this brother is near genius, Nouman Ali Khan:

http://www.kalamullah.com/nouman-alikhan.html

http://www.kalamullah.com/juzz-amma.html

each of these Scholars and Dr Shala (who specifically requests that he not be called a scholar) has a special gift in presenting Islam as the truly Guiding Light that it is. Menk's presentation style is a wonder and you should glance through the series on the Prophets, pbut, esp Jesus, pbuh. Dr Shala oozes love of the Qur'an and it's Arabic language and his Seerah is my favorite. Dr Philips has a Doctorate in Islamic studies, but as English is his primary language, he has strove to be able to explain all Islamic concepts, esp Fiqh, in English. Brother Khan is, well near genius in what he does!
