Tuesday يوم الثلثاء.

Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما said:

The Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said,

"A person should not enter into a transaction when his brother has already negotiated, nor should he make a proposal of marriage when that of his brother is pending, except with the permission of the latter." (Bukhari and Muslim)

There are two parts to this hadeeth. It appears on the surface it is talking about 2 separate things?

The first being about commerce, ie not to what is prevalent in today's world people will 'steal' other people's customers..(not the best of examples)..

The second is about marriage (of course).

There is an unwritten tradition here where the eldest 'needs' to get married before the younger siblings. If a younger one wants to get married before the the elder, he/she asks permission. Mostly it is granted. I think it is out of respect.

It's two different examples of the same concept.

1. Not to make an offer of sale whilst somebody else has tendered or made an offer

2. Not to offer a proposal in marriage whilst somebody else has requested the hand already.

In essence don't take an interests in what somebody else has shown interest in unless you take his permission.
