Death & the Hereafter

The stark realisation that death can take us at any second:

The stark realisation that death can take us at any second should shock us into immediate action. It should make us realise that we have no time to waste as each second that goes by could be our very last. Therefore we must prepare for our deaths NOW and we should realise that we are on borrowed time. This life is merely a journey until we reach our final destination in the hereafter.

Abu Hurairah (Ra) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Hasten to do good deeds before six things happen: the rising of the sun from the west, the smoke, the Dajjal, the beast and (the death) of one you or the general turmoil.” (Muslim 7039)

Therefore on a daily basis we should contemplate, ponder and reflect upon this realisation and it will have a significant impact upon our iman, as it will make us realise the temporary nature of this life and the fact that the real life is that of the hereafter which is for eternity. It will also make us realise that each second that goes by can NEVER be regained.

Daqaq (Ra) says, 'Who ever remembers death frequently, will benefit in three ways: he will hasten to repent, he will become content, and he will be active in worship. Whoever forgets death will be punished in three ways: he will delay repentance, he will no longer be content with what is sufficient, and he will be lazy in worship.

Therefore let us act NOW and do and say everything that will benefit us in this world and the next and will please Allah and refrain from doing or saying anything that will be detrimental to us in this world and the next and will anger and displease Allah.

Always remember death

Abu Darda once said:

"Remember Allah in good times & He will mention you in hard times. When you remember those who have passed away, consider yourself like one of them. And when you think of involving yourself in some worldly matter, consider first what it will lead to in the end".

Al Awzai said: "Whoever remembers death often will find a small amount (of worldly things) sufficient for him; & whoever includes his speech in his deeds will speak little".

"The world appeared to be so glamorous.

Its reality dawned upon me only when I went to the grave;
That what I had seen all along was but a dream,
What I had heard all along was but a tale."

“Death came and rendered the conscious, unconscious.
Death simply silenced the hue and cry of life."

Hadhrat Moulana Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Saheb (Rahmatullahi 'alayh)

re: Death and & the Hereafter
Allah Almighty said in surah Maryam verse 71-7
2: "There is none of you who will not be presented before the confines of Hell, for this is a settled decree which your Lord will bring in force. Then WE shall save those who were poise (feared Allah in the world and protected themselves from HIS disobedience) and will leave the transgressors within it on their knees."

The practicing believers shall pass over Hell on a very narrow dangerous bridge which cannot be crossed except by the Mercy of Allah. And the Mercy of Allah will be given to those who lived in this world with the fear of Allah. So they tried to make every prayer on time (Muslim men made it in masjid with the imam), they fasted in the Months of Ramadhan, they always paid their obligatory charity (zakat), and did Hajj if they could afford it. They tried to follow the character of Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wasallam in all of their dealings with all kind of people. Allah will make them to cross over Hell successfully while the munafiqeen will fall into Hell.

We must remember this hard path over Hell and try and pray to be protected from falling into Hell.

According to a hadeeth shareef, 0n the Day of Judgment, the nearest to Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wasallam will be those who are ahsanul akhlaaq (have good character) and very far from him will be those that talk too much, repeat their statements and---
(Allah knows best his Messenger's words. I presented the translation of some part of the hadeeth in my own words.)

May Allah forgive us all, aameen.

Good character is the one that is like that of the Prophet salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam. Me must know that the Prophet salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam.was very careful about the rights of relatives, neighbors, widows and orphans, and all needy and poor people. We must follow him to be near him in the Hereafter.

The real life is the life of the Hereafter:

‘Abdullāh b. Mas’ūd (Ra) said:

This world is only taken as a home by those who will have no real home in Jannah

and it is the wealth of those who will have no real wealth (In the Hereafter)

and it is gathered and collected for by those who have no real intelligence.

Ibn Abī Al-Dunyā, Dhamm Al-Dunyā article 16.

The Day of resurrection in the Hereafter has many names due to its hardness. It is Yawmul Hasrah ( the Day of Regret) and it is Yawmul Hashar (the Day of Gathering). All of the mankind From Adam alaihi salaam to the last minute of this world shall be gathered in the Court Of Allah to be accounted. All shall be naked and bare-footed. The sun will be very near, only one mile above. People will have place only to stand and they will be drowned in their own sweat up to different level according to their sins. Some will be drowned until his ankles, some up to his knees, some up to his navel, some up to his chest and some up to his nose.

It will be really a very Hard Day! The only shadow available will be the shade of Allah's thrown which will be provided to 7 types of characters:

1. Just king/ruler, that is a ruler who did justice according to Allah's Laws of Justice.
2.A boy who was brought up in good Islamic way and he continued living in that way.
3. A man invited (for illegal relation) by a beautiful, rich, attractive woman and he rejected it saying that he feared Allah.
4. A person giving charity with one hand and the other hand didn't know about it.
5. A person sitting alone and his eyes filled with tears in the remembrance of Allah.

I remember these 5 types and I forgot the other 2.
(May Allah forgive me about the hadeeth shareef. Allah knows best the words of HIS Prophet salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam. I presented the translation in my own words).

We must try to have those characteristics to get place in the shade of Allah's thrown.
Those standing near Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam will insha Allah succeed. So we must try to follow his (salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam) Character to succeed. May Allah make us successful on that very Hard Day, aameen.

To protect ourselves from the hardships and terrible punishment in the Hereafter, we must follow Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam. He was very truthful ( saadiq) and ameen (trustworthy). He always kept his words and promises. So we must protect ourselves from falsehood and we must be trustable and trustworthy. we must keep our words and promises.

The hadeeth of the Prophet salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam has told us clear difference between the character of a true Muslim and a munaafiq (hypocrite). Lying, breaking promises and destroying trust are the qualities of a munaafiq. So a true Muslim must keep away from these immoral habits. We must remember from the Holy Qur'aan that a munaafiq shall be in the lowest part of Hell. May Allah protect us all, aameen.

On the Day of Resurrection, people will be in great trouble, standing in sun and having no shade except the shade of Allah's Thrown which will be given to special people only. Those crowds of people will request that the accounting should start. They will consider the hardness of standing and waiting for the Accounting to be the greatest trouble. so they will all request Adam alaihi salaam to intercede to Allah Almighty to start the Accounting. He will say that he is not in that position, he never saw Allah so angry, so he fears Allah, therefore they should ask the Prophet Nouh alaihi salaam. The crowd will request Nouh alaihi salaam to intercede to Allah on their behalf. But Nouh alaihi salaam will also say that he is not in that position therefore they should ask Ibraheem alaihi salaam. They will request Ibraheem alaihi salaam but he will advise them to ask Musa alaihi salaam. They will then request Musa alaihi salaam but he will direct them to Eisa alaihi salaam. He will also say that he cannot intercede for them therefore they should request Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam. So finally the crowd will request Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam.

Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam, due to the position of Maqaami Mahmood, will accept their request and will fall in prostration to Allah almighty. Then Allah Almighty will allow him to intercede and also will accept his shafa'aa. So the accounting will start. This will be the first intercession which will be only a request to start the Accounting.

The Accounting will be very hard with the kaafirs. It will be light with the mo'mineen (practicing believers) and muttaqeen (God-fearing mo'mineen). Any one who is questioned will not be saved! Many kaafirs will be picked up from the gathering by a terrible huge snake to be taken to Hell. All kaafirs will be admitted to Hell directly from the Field of Gathering.

The Muslims and munaafiqeen will have to pass on the very narrow, sharp dark bridge, "the Siraat" which passes over Hell. The Prophet Muhammad salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam told its qualities but he said that its dangerous and hard nature nannot be explained in words. It will be in complete darkness and Muslims and Prophets all will cross it only by the Mercy of Allah. And the Mercy of Allah will be according to one's faith and actions in this world. The true Muslims will have light in their right hands and they will be praying to Allah for their success.

The munaafiqeen (hypocrites) will have no light and will be moving in the light of the Muslims. They will be in fear but with some satisfaction because they will be left to stay with the Muslims. As Allah said in the surah An Nisaa that the munaafiqeen deceive Allah and Allah deceives them. so they will be left to benefit from the light of the true Muslims until when they reach the "Siraat" on the Hell the speed of the true Muslims will increase and the munaafiqeen will be left in darkness. They will call the Muslims saying, " please go slowly so that we can also go in your light, see you that in the world we were with you". The Muslims will answer, "go back and bring light from the back". Then a wall will appear between them and they will fall into Hell. (go back and bring light means to go back to the world. It means that your true faith and obedience to Allah and HIS Prophet Salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam in this world is the only way to get light in the terrible darkness on the Siraat over Hell!!!)

All this statement is taken by me from long ahaadeeth and also from some verses of the Holy Quraan, and I presented it in my own simple short words. May Allah accept it from me and forgive me for my mistakes (aameen) because it is only Allah who knows the exact words of HIS Prophet salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam. For the statement of the munaafiqeen without light and moving in the light of the Muslims you can read the surah Al Hadeed. Its last part has this statement.

This short life is the only chance with us to struggle sincerely for the Al Aakhirah to protect ourselves from the Anger of Allah and that can be only by obeying Allah and HIS Messenger salla Allaho alaihi wa sallam at every step of this life.
