Buying something is permissible like water. There is no reward or punishment associated. But what if the person buys water with the good intention of giving it to a friend or someone who needs it. Would the act of buying the water be rewarded as well as giving it to the other person or would the person only be rewarded for giving and not buying.

Asalaamualaykum:

Allah SWT in Rahma rewards us more than we perceive. Allah SWT looks for excuses just to reward us for the little good that we do.

Allah SWT bounties of reward are not numeric in the sense that its fixed terms on the understanding that ikhlaas (sincerity) and intent fluctuates from action to action and person to person.

No one can give a fixed answer to your question.

InshAllah, Allah SWT may reward a person in the circumstances you mentioned for :

- Spending his wealth in the path of helping someone
- Purchasing a product that is Halaal to help someone
- Going through with the deed and actually dispensing it to that person.
- The Ikhlaas of the giver
