Yep I wear Hijab and I just love it. I love everything about it and the thought of ever having to give it up makes me cry. I have been in situations where I've had to choose between my hijab and my livelihood or my hijab and my family... and I just cannot give up my hijab. end of.
I began wearing it for a year before I took my shahada actually because Mary, mother of Isa (As) wore it. When I was 15 I wanted to be a nun, so at the age of 18 after being intorduced to the Idea of Islam, The hijab was just natural and I was super excited about it. I didn't dawn on me that I could have worn it before, I thought only women like nuns were good enough to wear it lol. After my shahada I wore niqab for a year or so, then transitioned back to hijab and abaya , then I did the long skirts with tunics thing and headscarf, then went back to abaya and scarf, as this is the most comfortable and worry free method for me. What I have found though is that, it isn't the cloth that matters, it's the way one carries themselves. I have known sisters who have to be "under cover muslims" as i like to call them lol who have to hide from family for a time. They wore their hair tied in a bun, no make up and loose clothing to hide their curves, their attitude was always friendly, kind, generous and helpful. That's what hijab is about imo because that is what is suppose to single out Muslims.
Also the focus shouldn't be so much on the scarf, I see too many hijabs (the scarf part) and skinny jeans ^o) now a days. Fleh.
Anyway, for those sisters who are wanting to wear it but for X reason cannot. Don't let anyone make you feel inferior. Life isn't about all or nothings.Baby steps. Hijab is flexible also, for example when I go to the Masjid on fridays and I know alot of men will be around (even though we are segregated, they are in the parking lot after Jumah) I wear my niqab. When I go out with my family, since they have a difficult time with it, I tie my scarf back , spanish style as this makes them more comfortable. Islam is beautiful, absolutely beautiful, and so easy. As you Imaan increases and as you learn more, you will learn to love your hijab and soon enough it will be natural to you, insha Allah.
