A mother's praise of her daughter must not focus most on her outward appearance:
"You're so beautiful!"
"Your hair looks stunning."
"That dress is gorgeous on you!"
This teaches the girl to be solely concerned with her appearance and causes her to forget that which is most important. As the hadith states, "Indeed, Allah does not look at your images or your wealth. Rather, He looks at your hearts and deeds."
So don't forget the likes of these:
"I'm so happy with your keenness to pray."
"I'm really impressed by your honesty."
"Wow, you're so kind to your brother."
