Eid gift

I think some Boxers(Shorts) some people (kids) dont wear boxer nah just kidin

If i was the person/kid i would take blessings and dua..... anda million bucks jokes
 
Fruit either dried or Fresh.

candies you have to be careful as many candies are no longer halal and it is hard to keep up with the ones that have not recently begun adding haram ingrediants.

Pasteries from a Mid eastern store is always a good choice. Baklava seems to be a world favorite.

Several small age appropriate low cost toys seems to always go good. My grand kids get the el-cheapo dollar toys, usually 2 or 3 each, but I have 14 grand kids and I am a cheap skate.

AWH!that's the first time I hear about a non-muslim giving an 3eid gift to a muslim family,and I live in a very multicultural place by the way..

Woodrow brought up a good point with the hole not-halal ingredients in sweets..so that can be a quite tricky.I also HATE giving money as a gift...it's just so impersonal..

Anw these are just your neighbors so it's no biggy,a gift card from a nice feminine shop would be nice for the mother...and boys that age,if they are athletic,would be happy with maybe a football or a basket-ball or something...That would put a smile on their faces I believe...

Everyone else's suggestion are good too!(Oh..I'd LOVE to get a cat.)
 
Right, I am definitely disregarding cats, sheep or donkeys as options! :D

Woodrow, as it happens I sampled some Pakistani sweets in one of our local Muslim grocers yesterday - and they were delicious! :)

Next question then:

On which day do I give the Eid card and gift?

I asked two young lads in the local Islamic shop yesterday, and they told me on Thursday ... but surely Ramadan doesn't end until Friday or Saturday??

You could give the card a day or two before. Eid will either be on Friday or Saturday, so giving it on Thursday isn't a bad idea. If you want to give some sweets, I'd recommend you give them early on Eid day.

So you can give the card and the Rolex watches on Thursday/Friday, and the sweets early on Eid Morning.

peace Glo:peace: hey i would give the kids Eid cards with like £5 or £10 each. n the mother i would give her like hmmmmm this is a hard one......get her a box of sweets like the one's you tasted and/or you could go to an islamic bookshop n buy her a nice nasheed CD (islamic songs)

hope thats not toooooo much to ask for InshAllah:D (God willing)
 
Just give the mom a kiss and a hug and the children give them a pet like a CAT(S) or some candies i guess!

I just remember... sometimes we give eid cakes. Children will love it. But make sure it is halal :D

Unfortunately you're wrong!!!

For those kids who come on the first day of Eid (our Open House) we'll give a goodie bag with lots of candies and put in the angpau (small Green envelope that contains Eid Money). How much I'll give? For ordinary kids (RM2.00), for relatives' and my neighbour's kids (RM10.00), for relatives who are still studying in the university (RM50.00)...

P/S- Dont tell others....:nervous: or they'll storm my house on Eid!!!

My family has more than hundreds children. :confused: You are lucky that you only have to give to 14 kids.

and for my cousins and cousin's children that still studying...i've to give more than rm2. :mmokay: but still i love to make them feel happy :happy:

i think i'm going to bring my family along...RM50 for each of us...so total is RM 150.

p/s:- when i was a kid, i love getting money and save it. When i was in Uni i was so grateful that for all the eid money that people have given it to me. :)

it's good to see you reaching out to your neighbor like that. Islam encourages very strongly on treating neighbors well and the angel Gabriel emphasized on the rights of the neighbors that the prophet (saws) said he thought he would have to include them in his inheritance. Our neighbors are very special and we should always treat them well, regardless of faith or what not.

It would be best to give it on Thursday. If eid falls on friday then you're safe and if on saturday then they'll still be happy to get the presents a day ahead.

As for what to give. Kids normally like to collect money from all the adult family, relatives, family friends, etc and then they go buy what they like. Several good ideas have been given here. You can give money in an envelop with Eid Mubarak on top of it or something else. Since you mentioned the family is a bit poor, it would be better to give them gift voucher/card or something to a place with many options (walmart maybe?) and they can buy what they need. Sweets from local arab/paki store is good also. And if the mother wears the headscarf maybe you can look at local arab store to see if you can get one for nice deal. Just some suggestions, i'm sure you'll think of something they could really use.
 
In this days you can't say for 100% a family its poor because are average families which prefers to save the money. :-[
 
Hello glo,

I hope I'm not derailing the thread here, but on the other side of the coin, what would be an appropriate gift for a Muslim to give a non-Muslim on Eid? I guess it would have to be something neutral like sweets or the gift vouchers as people mentioned earlier... would you feel happy to accept such gifts?
